The camera moves over the painting Bronzeville at Night by Archibald Motley during the opening credits of Devil in a Blue Dress. You can see the painting a little ways down this page. There is an oral history interview with Motley. Director Carl Franklin mentions this on the commentary track on the DVD.

First things first. Margaret Cho is incredibly funny. Laugh until it hurts funny, laugh until you cry funny. And this is actually captured in her two concert films, I'm the One That I Want and Notorius C.H.O. It is also true watching the former on DVD at home alone one afternoon and the latter that evening at the packed opening of the San Francisco International Lesbian & Gay Film Festival.
