Well, I don't work in the Berkeley store (you'd have to quadruple my
pay and cut my *normal* hours in half to get me to work that close to
Ken), but if you're ever in the ghetto (ahem, I mean San Lorenzo)... 

Martha - Booksmith has also put in their request early. And after they
helped me clear my checking account on my last visit, I'll just have
to pout if they don't get a tour-date. 

Madman - not having access to a paper feat. Bizarro, wanna enlighten
me?

Madman, I'm not one to brag, but for her recent birthday my assistant
Lorraine was given, by the Governor's office of the state of Kentucky,
the honorary rank of duchess of the town of Hazzard.

The sweetest, coolest thing to turn up this week was the rough work
for Jill Thompson's LITTLE ENDLESS STORYBOOK, a lovely sweet little
tale about Barnabas the dog losing Delirium and going to find her. 
Jill's doing a wonderful job -- she proposed it, kept after DC on it,
and seems to have talked them into doing an 'all ages' sandman book. 
  

    
I'm so very pleased about Jill's efforts, and can not wait!
I truely feel that Barnabas is my favorite non-Endless, Sandman
charcter.
Been working on the local bookstores, as well as pushing my luck with
the Boston and N.Y. ones. I figure that I shouldn't put all my eggs in
one basket. You wouldn't beleive the odd responses I get when I explain
I'm willing to drive two or three hours for a signing. Don't these
people have anyone they admire/enjoy/bake cookies for?

        Barnabas runs second to Hob Gadling for my favorite Sandman
character.  Hob's just such a nice guy, though, and got the "And I'm
not Jewish" line, which rules.

The substance of it- it's a book signing, the book is called _Made of
Sugar_, and there is a sign on the table saying "DUNK THE AUTHOR". Several
baseballs sit on the table, and the author sits, lonely, in a tank half
filled with water.
I just managed to make out the subtitle on the book, which is "The sweetest
guy who ever lived tells all."

And if I'm ever going to be in San Lorenzo, I'll be sure to forewarn.
  

    

I love Bizarro.  There was a story in the paper about Piraro in the last
few years and about how he needed a place to stay when he came to SF for a
book signing and stayed with local fans.  He looks just like the people in
his strip!

Anyway, if Cody's is signed up, then I am not going to worry further about
an East Bay location.  Very cool.
  

    
streak -- I have to agree with you.  Barnabas is cool but Hob comes
out on top for me too.  Maybe second are the Kindly Ones, or mebbe the

Neil - But I *do* need to learn to 'shut up' if I'm perpetually
running late for work... especially yesterday (not that it mattered, my
3 hours of going-in-on-my-day-off turned into 6 1/2 hours of late
night delivery madness that forced me to miss the CBLDF Comic Art
Museum reception... GRRRRRRRRERRRRRARRR!)

As for Jill's project, YAY! The only Sandman page I own is one of
Barnabas and Destruction. :) Barnabas is definitely one of my favourite
characters. And kudos to Jill for pushing so hard!

Jinx - So, when they thought you were a little nuts, did you tell them
how far some of the rest of us have traveled to see Neil? (Mimi and
Reg & Tree come to mind)

Well, being formally in retail, I have heard some odd stories from
customers wanting things, so I was very understanding,....at first.
However the 4th or 5th time she asked me where I was from, I was
slightly annoyed. Did explain the lengths in which people will go, if
not the distances (wasn't sure how stalker-ish it would come off.

As for on-line cartoons, check out Sinfest at sinfest.net, there is a
series of strips in the archives that has one of the best
representaions of God and the Devil I've ever seen.

The language is a bit strong for those who have a low tolerance for
swearing, but I find it very funny.

Jinx -- I just went to look at Sinfest and laughed WAY too hard to be
appropriate at work.  My coworkers think I'm nuts but it is just so

So, went to the Alternative Press Expo today & met a bunch of neat
people, including Scott McCloud. What a nice man. :) He even signed
"the jacket" with neat squiggles and light bulbs and things.

squeaks, who was surprised Johnen Vasquez wasn't the snot she'd

A Short Introduction:

Hello to everyone!  I have been wanting to post for quite some time, but
it took me a bit to gather the gumption (hehe. I love that word!) to post.
 But I finally figured what the hell, everyone there is friendly, I am
just being silly.  So...here I am!  Don't want to bore you with the "I
adore Neil" specifics, so I'll just jump right in, if you don't mind.

I love the Sinfest comics, thanks for the pointer!  I myself am a fan of
the Red Meat comics.  (you can see them at www.redmeat.com)  They can be
quite crude, and really very disgusting, but usually very funny.
Bug-Eyed-Earl is my favorite!

Hopefully I will be getting an Inkwell account soon.  Until then....

Angelina - good to see another thingie here. :) Red Meat is okay, but
I'm more into the little blurbs at the top of the strips... naturally,
since I"m thinking about them, none come to mind.

I don't watch much TV these days -- I got out of the habit, and it's
hard to get back to it, but I just discovered a channel called B-Mania,
a B movie channel, and watched.... something ... on it. I'm not sure
what it was. It had a mad professor, and a mad professor's mad
assistant who kills and impersonates the mad professor. It had lots of
murders, including a cat-killing, and a great deal of female nudity. It
looked like it wasn't filmed any later than the mid 50s. like PLAN 9
but with occasional nipples, not to mention descriptions of extreme
psychoses cribbed from a text book running down the screen every few
minutes. Magnificently odd. I wish I knew what it was called.

computer (running Windows NT) managed to lose its comm ports, and thus

I'm still here.  Just finished watching one of the spookiest
episodes of "Angel," so far.  I'm in the minority,
but I don't think the writer-producers work hard enough.
With a little bit more effort, I think tonight's episode could
have been up in Coen Bros. territory with Barton Fink.  But
as is, it's just the most interesting series drama on.

Anyway, you mentioned pending receipt of a new PC card
modem, upthread.  Did your ports disappear after you 
inserted it in the slot?  Generally, the computer has its
own serial port for COM1 and when you insert a PC Card modem,
it decides to be COM2 or COM3, after it's detected.  You can
check to see whether the PC Card modem is installed by opening
the Control Panel and opening the Modems applet.  That will also
tell you which port the modem thinks it's using.  If you've still
got a setting for an old PC Card modem, you might want to try
removing it as well as the new one, and then reinstalling the
new one.

After the modem is installed, you should see a listing for it
in the Ports applet in Control Panel.   COM1 should be address
3F8 and IRQ 4.  COM2 should be address 2F8 and IRQ3.  If the modem
tried something tricky, it may have created a COM3 or COM4.  

If the modem is shown as installed, and there's a COM port for it,
the next thing to check is the connection profile: right-click
Network Neighborhood, choose Properties, go to the Services tab,
choose Remote Access Service, click Properties.  If you see your
connection profile with the wrong modem, you may want to try
removing it and recreating it.
  

    
You know, for all that I am a great admirer of Neil Gaiman I don't know I'm
the best expert on Neil Gaiman.  For a job such as this.

The novel coming out makes a fine occasion for a Neil Gaiman piece.  Really
a Neil Gaiman Brilliant Careers piece is what they need.  Probably you're
too young yet for that though.
