Yeah, I saw Burns on Charlie Rose discuss many of the same things he
brings up in this article. Nuanced and complex, to say the least. I
wonder if there really is a big picture, or just conflicting and
confusing chaos growing by the minute, even within the Iraq people's
psyches.

A somewhat more ambiguous look at it via the Times in this morning's
IHT:

My take on it was that neither side really has a Big Picture on what's
going on. We have the capability to define it, but as usual, we're
looking after our own asses and being a bit too aggressive.

No, we're not winning hearts and minds.

It may be that only the shiites can save this situation.

Why is this being discussed in this topic? Does it have some profound
connection, ethereal as it may be, to Iraq and the war?

Meanwhile, many Iraqis' hearts and minds are definitely not being won:

>U.S. troops face a difficult task in trying to root out the violent
insurgents who want to drive them out of Iraq. But in pursuing this
deadly enemy, the Americans are frequently guilty of excesses that are
turning ordinary Iraqis into foes. Bush's Thanksgiving visit meant
little to Iraqis, who cite three areas of concern: the killing of
innocents, the "disappearance" of countrymen detained by U.S. forces,
and the destruction of buildings, including family homes. The last
tactic, justified by U.S. commanders as legitimate demolition of
military targets, is criticized by human-rights groups like Amnesty
International as smacking of collective punishment. As U.S. forces
employ more aggressive tactics to take on the resistance, these
grievances are only getting worse, setting back the effort to win over
local hearts and minds. "Before the Americans came, we heard a lot
about their respect for human rights," says Khalid Mustafa Akbar, at a
mourning tent for his three brothers who were shot dead while driving
their pickup by a U.S. patrol outside Tikrit last week. "But then we
found it is only talk."<

http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1101031208-552124-1,00.html

We are not talking about fiction. We are talking about physical fact.
This level of science goes back beyond the beginning of the last
century to Maxwell's equations. After his death, other scientists cut
the number of his original equations from twenty down to four, not
understanding what they were doing. So we lost the ability calculate
and control gravity, momentum, time, desease, and a few other things
including taking free electricity out of the active vacuum. Tom
bearden calls it the "Active Vacuum," Some have called it "Zero Point,"
Tesla called it "Radiant Energy," and the people of Maxwells' time
called it "the Aether."

Our Federal Reserve, a private central bank owned by the banking
cartel has been draining our nation's wealth. I didn't know until
recently they have also been suppressing useful and interesting
inventions. See "The Creature from Jekyll Island" by G. Edward
Griffin. You can find it in Amazon.com or bn.com (Barnes and Noble) if
not in your public library.

Who needs conspiracies at all when human nature and interests dictate
that groups will behave in a certain fashion whether or not they can
act in concert or not? E.g., Halliburton would still be trying to rob
the United States Treasury whether Cheney were veep or no.
