sorry, i posted a long thing about a possible translator for your book
in German, then thought i shd consult some German friends first, which
i will do tomorrow. I think your book could have a great audience
here.

on the subject of marketing ideas, what about a Terri Gross interview
or a review on NPR (maybe there's been one and i missed it)?

If there has been, I missed it too. I'm sure the publishers pitched the
idea and got nowhere. I've been on some more regional NPR things.

I will ask who handles the foreign rights thing.

Do you have any upcoming readings or interviews, Susan?

woops, that shd've been Terry Gross. i always get mixed up bcs once
she mentioned in an interview a girlish impulse she'd had to change the
spelling so she could dot the "I" with a flower.

I remember when your other book came out, it was mentioned a lot on
public radio, e.g. "This segment of our show was sponsored by ---, the
publishers of When Elephants Weep," which got one curious about the
title.

I still haven't read this new one, but should be getting my hooks on
it soon.

Cynthia, no readings are scheduled (except one at the Museum of Natural
History in New York in Ocotber). I'm scheduled to be on WTBQ in New
Jersey on the 31st, 3:10--3:55 eastern time; and on KQED's Friday
Forum on the 3rd, from 10--11 am.

minutes ago)

Ah, well, the host although very fond of animals, was inclined to focus
on such issues as energy, vibration, God, oneness of the universe, the
ability to learn to focus so that bodies become transparent, and his
ability to survive lightning strikes, issues where we differ. But he
kindly allowed me to wrestle the subject to such matters as teaching
otters to swim, teaching eagles to fly, and other things related to
animal learning.

Sounds like a tough wrestling match, Susan. heh

I see you're also being interviewed in salon.com today...

I suspect Katharine Mieszkowski is a bit more focused on the subject matter
at hand, eh?

Yes, not to mention the fact that she cunningly *read the book,* and so
was able to bring up relevant matters.

I did get to talk about the wild chimpanzees who were apparently
communicating their travel plans by drumming on tree trunks---until
so many of them were killed by poachers that they may have decided
this wasn't safe....
