oh, it's like that is it? so you didn't go on, I hear. Damn that CA supreme court. How dare they ruin your big appearance.
With catlike tread (sumac) Fri 13 Aug 04 16:48
Yes, it is another reason to be cross with them.

sorry, i posted a long thing about a possible translator for your book in German, then thought i shd consult some German friends first, which i will do tomorrow. I think your book could have a great audience here. on the subject of marketing ideas, what about a Terri Gross interview or a review on NPR (maybe there's been one and i missed it)?
With catlike tread (sumac) Thu 26 Aug 04 09:59
If there has been, I missed it too. I'm sure the publishers pitched the idea and got nowhere. I've been on some more regional NPR things. I will ask who handles the foreign rights thing.
Cynthia Dyer-Bennet (cdb) Thu 26 Aug 04 16:46
Do you have any upcoming readings or interviews, Susan?
Nettie Hendricks (nettie) Thu 26 Aug 04 22:50
woops, that shd've been Terry Gross. i always get mixed up bcs once she mentioned in an interview a girlish impulse she'd had to change the spelling so she could dot the "I" with a flower. I remember when your other book came out, it was mentioned a lot on public radio, e.g. "This segment of our show was sponsored by ---, the publishers of When Elephants Weep," which got one curious about the title. I still haven't read this new one, but should be getting my hooks on it soon.
With catlike tread (sumac) Fri 27 Aug 04 19:06
Cynthia, no readings are scheduled (except one at the Museum of Natural History in New York in Ocotber). I'm scheduled to be on WTBQ in New Jersey on the 31st, 3:10--3:55 eastern time; and on KQED's Friday Forum on the 3rd, from 10--11 am.
Cynthia Dyer-Bennet (cdb) Tue 31 Aug 04 13:03
So how did your interview on WTBQ go? (you must have just finished a few minutes ago)
With catlike tread (sumac) Tue 31 Aug 04 13:09
Ah, well, the host although very fond of animals, was inclined to focus on such issues as energy, vibration, God, oneness of the universe, the ability to learn to focus so that bodies become transparent, and his ability to survive lightning strikes, issues where we differ. But he kindly allowed me to wrestle the subject to such matters as teaching otters to swim, teaching eagles to fly, and other things related to animal learning.
Cynthia Dyer-Bennet (cdb) Tue 31 Aug 04 13:13
Sounds like a tough wrestling match, Susan. heh I see you're also being interviewed in salon.com today... http://www.salon.com/books/int/2004/08/31/mccarthy/index.html I suspect Katharine Mieszkowski is a bit more focused on the subject matter at hand, eh?
With catlike tread (sumac) Tue 31 Aug 04 13:24
Yes, not to mention the fact that she cunningly *read the book,* and so was able to bring up relevant matters.
Gail Williams (gail) Tue 31 Aug 04 13:51
Katherine M. has a disarming ability to do that.
With catlike tread (sumac) Tue 31 Aug 04 14:07
Kind of underhanded, really.
Martha Soukup (soukup) Tue 31 Aug 04 17:56
The WTBQ guy probably didn't ask you, like Salon, to explain the hundredth monkey fallacy, then--
With catlike tread (sumac) Tue 31 Aug 04 21:47
Oddly, you are right!
Martha Soukup (soukup) Tue 31 Aug 04 21:53
Probably because 100 other people had figured that out first.
With catlike tread (sumac) Tue 31 Aug 04 22:04
I did get to talk about the wild chimpanzees who were apparently communicating their travel plans by drumming on tree trunks---until so many of them were killed by poachers that they may have decided this wasn't safe....

The KQED Friday Forum with Angie Coiro is today, at 10:00.

It matters who your daddy is. (debbie) Mon 8 Nov 04 14:57
that looks great!
Cynthia Dyer-Bennet (cdb) Tue 9 Nov 04 10:15
Indeed, it does. I wish I lived closer, I love to hear you talk about animals, Susan.
