Yes, he had earned far more walks along the beach.

Clearly, however, having just finished reading the entirety of this
topic, he has left all of us with a fine body of good works and I look
forward to exploring them.

I just learned this news and am so sorry that the last chapter in his life,
discussed in this topic, was so short.

It's a long way form production, but the producer seems intent on making
a narrative film about Everett's life. I will definitely keep track of his
progress!

Interesting! I'd love to encourage a film like that.

I saw the obit this morning, too. Damn shame. It's a very good book. I
recently met a man who is working on a film (not a doc) about Ruess, and I
had suggested he contact Fradkin.

I was looking at my framed print of Everett Ruess's "Granite & Cypress" when
I looked down at my SF Chronicle and found an obituary for Philip L.
Fradkin, who died Saturday at his home in Point Reyes Station. He was 77.
The Everett Ruess book was indeed his last. Here is his obituary by Sam
Whiting:

dead-at-77-3697771.php>

I've been looking into getting a high-clearance vehicle for the past few
years JUST so I can get to places like Davis Gulch.

Yes, it has. I feel like I've been living in Ruess's world for the past 20
days. Thanks for a marvelous book, Philip, and the many pleasures I foresee
exploring the places and things you've described!
