Welcome to the conversation. This feed format is reversed from the
sequence you see on the live site. You are reading one of the few topics
on The WELL that is open to all, members or not.

The naming of names and the use thereof has gained me my first
nickname in many years.

Some friends at work call me "nightshift" but here on the Well I am
"norcal". My userid is the result of the need for a long set of letters
(Engaged id), a work id and some bit of whimsey. Both my given name
and surname are common- look to see how many Chris Knight entries you
find on the web.

Here I am "norcal" or 'norcalnative" which is fine and easier than
being one of dozens with the same name on four continents. Posting here
is much the same as posting to friends and business associates via
email. In one way or another, the people I email have some knowledge of
me and it would be pretentious to be someone else. In some topics the
threads look like an exchange of letters between people with a common
interests but various points of view. My responses to posts here can
and do vary just as they would if we were in the same office or old
school friends or in any other venue.

WELLcome, Mack. I'm only a couple of months into this scene myself,
but know exactly what you're talking about. When I tell people I'm
building a home in cyberspace, it's all centered around this community.
I look forward to seeing your wit and fast-rappin', buzzy style in
other conferences! (It took me a month and a half just to locate myself
amidst the plethora of conferences. Lots of "lurking," lots of fun.
Now, I can't seem to get out of this place once I sign in.)

I fear that, as I have a 3-month-old infant who has already
commandeered all my remaining "free time." I need to figure out a way
around sleep.

Two quotes:

"So much to do, so little time."

"A nap? I *hate* those little slices of death."

Thanks for the kind welcome, all.

Hadn't intended my cannonball to douse everybody's fruity umbrella
drinks. Now will go wrap up in a towel and shiver in goosebumps in the
shadow of the poolhouse, occasionally shouting encouragement and
watching the other kids play until I get the full hang of it. Just
beginning to explore the panoply of confs at the moment.

f

Well done, sir. You might be interested in <palm.ind>, which, despite its
name, is an equal opportunity PDA conference.
