There are two I'd recommend, and both quite different.

1.)"Small Towns" is about a book on typical small towns with charming photos and quotes from small town people; but best of all, it links to a site that offers almost private writing workshops (6 max) at a mountain retreat; and has free writing tips each month.

2.) Page One

This site has an interview each month of an author that not only talks about the book, but how they did it. good hints. Neat quotes from actual "page one" of new books. can get a free email newsletter. I think it's: http://www.pageone.com

A powerful, enjoyable discovery for me this year has been the Lew Griffin novels of James Sallis--call them pomo mysteries for lack of a better word. . . . A great intro to Sallis (who's long been pals with the likes of Michael Moorcock and other "edge" fictioneers) is is homepage and the interviews and articles one will find therein. Chief among them is Ian Sinclair's overview of Sallis's work originally published in "The London Review of Books." Sallis is an American, but it's frequently the Europeans who point out to us our better writers.
