I'd love to hear from people who knew 'fern' in Potsdam NY many years ago.
If you shopped at the Radish, you might have met me as well.

I joined the Well years ago when I worked for Pacific Bell and part of my
job was to learn about "hackers". I found more than I was looking for:-)

I've stuck around all these years because the Well is the best place I
know of on the internet for interesting people and discussions. Of course,
there are the usual collection of people here and an expected level of
noise, but still this is a great place.

An excerpt from my .plan:

Interests include: Meher Baba; spirituality; life in general; dogs;
system administration; music.

My wife's business is arranging tours of North America for celtic
and folk musicians: http://www.nancycarlinassociates.com

Take a look at the one that rules the household:

If you're weird enough to want to see what my wife, dog & I look like:

Some of favorite buttons/quotes most from http://www.nancybuttons.com/

If you're going to walk on thin ice, you might as well DANCE.

Human speech is like a cracked kettle on which we tap crude
rhythms for bears to dance to, while we long to make music
        which will melt the stars.

When tempted to fight fire with fire, remember that fire
        departments generally use water.

God created music so people can pray without words.

Shit happens but it also makes things grow.

        Don't worry. Be silly.

        Be seeing you.

   Okay, it looks safe.

I'm Coleman, or Ridge. I answer to either as my name of address.
I've been in the Well since mid '99, first as cocoridge and now as you
see. I turned 66 whilst in my first Wellyear. Clearly I am a
depression baby, not a baby boomer.

Went through most of my minority and much of my youth while the USA
was at war. My male peers & I grew up with the expectation that we
would grow up, be conscripted, and sent to be war against the enemy of
the week until we were killed or badly maimed. I am (surprise!) a
pacifist. When I was young there was a working class where now there
are the poor, the unemployed & the "middle class". We were working
class.

   Politically, I'm mixed liberal, left-wing, & Catholic Worker-ish.
I no longer believe in any god, but I pray each night that the Bush
junta, the ignorant, fundamentalist republicans, and all their friends
be eaten by jackals.

My well home is gimp.ind. Have a topic in life. Go to ethics
often. Et cetera.

and i (i believe) was the person to call coleman kindly old mr. ridge
oridgeinally.

i try to host a tiny private conference about non-12 step folks dealing with
addiction. not many people show up there. after reading a newspaper story
about a judge sentencing bobby brown today to go to either AA or NA and
saying he didn't know if he was an addict but the 12 step philosophy should
do him some good anyway, i sorta threw up my hands. but that was all i threw
up.

e-mail is sd@well.com if you're interested in the above.

not the bobby brown part but...

i've been here for a few years because i'd been reading about the well here
and there for a long while. it was worth the trip. thanks to tnf, wrk,
pellmell, coiro, jera, bethr and lots of other folks for making this a
wonderful experience.

I'm Adam, I've been on the Well since 1990 (ye gods!) and I'm the co-host
of the theatre conference.

I'm also a professional clown, flea circus impresario, recent author, and
hyper-vigilant self-promoter.

My user id came about because when I was in clown college, I came up with
a bunch of adult clown routines. When people asked me what my clown name
was going to be, I said "Kafka." I.e. kafclown.

I'm ari. I've been on the WELL since 1986. I have co-hosted the
Jewish conference since 1987, when mo, the former host of hosts,
and I co-founded it. At other times I have co-hosted ibm and
canada. My interests change over time.

I hang out these days in "east," "jewish", "canada",
"vc" (virtual community), "web" and other techie conferences.

When I'm not online (but I'm almost always online, even if
I'm off reading or sleeping somewhere) I do some
multilingual typography and a lot of web development. Right
now I'm trying to learn C++ (not good for web development)
and making my way quite happily through the collected short
stories of Eudora Welty. S.Y. Agnon, she's not, er, she
wasn't.

Hi, I'm Andrew; I've only been around The WELL since 2001 which makes me a
babe in arms around here. Which I guess makes me a good co-host of the
aforementioned well2003.pri private conference for people joining The WELL
this year.

I'm based in London, making me one of The WELL's surprisingly large
contingent of non-American and non-US-based members. Some of us hang out in
europe.ind, which I also get the pleasure of hosting.

I'm Steve Morse, and I've been on the Well since 1993. I used to host
Singles, which is where I met the lovely and talented Glenna Mills
(<glenna>). But I married Glenna, making me not single anymore. So now
Glenna and I co-host the Couples Conference, where we dispense our special
Pearls of Wisdom and other irrelevant aphorisms.

I've been on the Well since God was a toddler, although undoubtedly not as
long as Dave Hughes. I blah blah blahed for about twelve or thirteen
years, and I've been mostly lurking for the past five or six years.

I am proud to have made a profession of my pathologies.

I am Jennifer Powell and I also came to the Well in the class of '93 (it was
a very good year). I live outside Denver and spend time in the Rockies
conference, but even more time in <games.> and <everquest.ind>. At this
time I don't host anything here, though I do some hosting and moderation at
AOL and MTV.com. I doubt there are any old Lum-fans reading this, but if you
hang around any gaming communities you might know me as Kytelae in those
places.

I keep a resume at <http://www.jnfr.com>, and a personal home page at
<http://www.well.com/~jnfr>. I'm curious to see how a public space like this
differs from my normal Well experience.

Hi. I'm Sherry/Izzie/Molly, depending on when you met me, and how well you
know me. and if your name is <mellobelle>, you can call me BabyGirl -- I'm
a young'un in the company I keep on the Well. and I'm ticked at <sd> now
for leaving me off his list of cool kids.

I came to the Well right after Garcia died because a Deadhead buddy
stationed in Haiti with my hubby called me and asked me to find the
Deadheads on the Internet. I found the Well, got scared by the Real
Deadheads, and never told my buddy about it.

I am a very nice young lady who doesn't photograph well, can't carry a tune
in a bucket, couldn't dance on beat to save her life, and never raises her
voice in public. You'll find me in <herd.ind>, <pagan.ind>, <witch.ind>,
<words.>, <news> and a bunch of other places. In the 7 years I've been
here, I've made two of the best friends I've ever had, have found a few
people I just can't stomach at all, and have met more people than I ever
thought imaginable. And most of them like me, too! I remember <ellen>
telling me once that she never would have met an Army officer's wife had I
not been here, and sometimes that has been a big reason to stay - the
variety of folks met here is amazing.

directory, which is linked to from the front page of the Well?

Or am I mistaken?

Perhaps at some point a topic about how private the WELL is or isn't, and
courtesy, custom and delusion thereabout, would be just the thing.

Meanwhile in the spirit of introduction, I'm Gail, I started working here
over ten years ago, after being a zealous and addicted user for about two
years. Initially I worked with conference hosts, conferencing policy,
and conferencing software improvements, but now I do some of everything
working with both The WELL and Salon Table Talk with our very small and
dedicated staff. I love and respect the many-faced world of The WELL.
It's a true treasure, created by an amazing bunch of people.
