 1. BRATWOOD
I was shocked when I saw the Mad Hatter
His garments just hung in a tatter
 And blaming the cat
 He picked up his hat
The Cheshire smiled wide at his chatter!
 >kath lrph

 2. KATH
I was shocked when I saw the Mad Hatter
He popped up through the hole, all atatter
 "I'm so sad," whimpered he,
"I put gin in her tea
But dear Alice ran straight up the ladder!"

 3. ROWDYPAL
I was shocked when I saw the Mad Hatter,
so shocked that I sat on his cat, or
 a very large rodent?
 His tea was so potent
I don't recall much of the matter.
 >kafclown cdb ronks karish bratwood

 4. LRPH
I was shocked when I saw the Mad Hatter
Had lost all control of his bladder
 With piss on his leg
He was left there to beg,
"Would you please help me clean up the splatter?"

 5. VIV
I was shocked when I saw the Mad Hatter
Was resplendent in hose all laddered
 But his ebony spats
 and ivoried gats
 Belied the natty one's tatters

Okay, rowdypal, take a bow and type us a new lede.

Although, hmmm, I don't have your vote and if bratwood types it first
it's hers.

Sorry, I was away from email for two weeks (for the first time since
1990). I like Bratwood's, by the way, but left on my trip just before
the entries were posted.

Here's the new lede, somewhat inspired by my trip:

A gecko ran under her chair

Thanks and thank heaven you posted something.
I've been lede-impaired these past two weeks.

the gecko's tiring and cannot rest without your limerick. Finish the
limerick that begins

A gecko ran under her chair

and send it to <edgarbox@well.com>. Two entries are in, need a least 2 more
for a full game. If you're reading this post you can play, you need not be
logged into the Well.

How about we add an optional lede, since people don't seem to like the
gecko one. Perhaps I should have used the alternate spelling "gekko"?
In any case, here's another lede and I'll let Viv decide if it's OK
to let people choose to use this instead:

I'd much rather travel by train

I'm not tossing the two geckos I have so we'll accept both lines:

A gecko ran under her chair

or

I'd much rather travel by train

I missed an entry and request your forebearance:

1.
A gecko ran under her chair,
Looking up, it could see she was bare.
At first it turned red,
Turning orange it said
"Under here I see no underwear".

2.
A gecko ran under her chair
Made off with some strands of her hair
He loved her like mad
But she - this is sad -
Did not even know he was there.

3.
A gecko ran under her chair
There wasn't a second to spare
She jumped, then she screamed
Her head hit a beam,
And then she started to swear.

4.
The gecko ran under her chair
Underneath her flowing hair
Reflected on the journey he took,
He whinced and buckled, shivered and shook
Decided that all was fair.

5.
I'd much rather travel by train
Another is simply a pain
I can relax, read a good book
Follow the tree line down to the brook
I'd much rather travel by train.

6.
A gecko ran under her chair
Of which she was quite unaware.
She'd taken the train
Now who can explain
How the gecko had come to be there.

7.
I'd much rather travel by train
The airport can be such a pain
With metal detectors
And foreign infecters
Not driving, it's flying insane!

rjs, hal, and karish: please recast if you're vote changes. thanks.
