Pine

Log in to your WELL account.

If you have made no or few customizations to Pine: You may type !pinespam at the OK prompt to set up a mail folder called SPAMBOX and set up a filter to move tagged spam to it. Using !pinespam will remove any other customizations you may have done to your Pine configurations, but you can restore other choices by hand after using !pinespam.

If you want to preserve customizations you currently have in Pine:

  1. Open Pine. (Depending on your settings, you may type mail or pine or you may use the PicoSpan Menu system to bring up Pine.)

  2. From Pine's Main Menu, select s for Setup, then r for Rules.

  3. For "Type of rule setup", select f for Filters and hit enter.

  4. Type a for Add to add a new spam filter set. You will see a configuration screen. Use the up and down arrow keys to move among the settings. Most will be left blank. When you reach one you want to change, either type * to mark the choice you want or type c to change the contents of the setting. Press enter to accept each change.

    Set as follows:

    • Type in a nickname for the new filter such as SpamAssassin.
    • Leave the Current Folder Type as-is, with Specific and INBOX selected.
    • Change Filtered Message condition: Subject pattern = (SPAM?).
    • Select and change Filter Action: * Move.
Enter folder name(s) in primary collection, or use List = SPAMBOX.
    • If you want Pine to mark to delete each spam in your SPAMBOX, then under Set Deleted Status select * Set this state. With this recommended setting, each time you close the SPAMBOX after inspecting it for false positives (incorrectly marked legitimate email), Pine will ask if you want to delete the contents of SPAMBOX. You can simply hit enter to agree.

Pine will now create your SPAMBOX file.

  5. Type E to Exit Setup and type Y to replace (update) your old settings with this new filter set included.
