THE UNSWEPT CORNER

Oh, Lord, who died for me,
Forgive Thou all my sins,
Except, or course, those hidden
in an unswept corner
of my soul,
safe from prying eyes
of God and man.
Sins, the disclosure of which
would make me outcast of men
and would make Jesus, Gentle Savior,
Lamb of God,
lock me up with (cold)? contempt
in the dark closet
(Why do I think of that?
It was another person, place--
and long ago!)
Oh God, Implacable,
Omniscient Judge,
if only you knew
what it is to be tempted.
