October 23 update from Hans H:
Here's the way the schedule looks to me right now, but subject to correction and modification:
Reunion Schedule, current as of 23 October
Thursday afternoon, 25 Oct. -- (this has nothing to do with Tam but will be
of interest to any warmongers in the class) tour of Pony Tracks Ranch in
Portola Valley and the Military Vehicle Technology Foundation's collection
of beautifully restored combat vehicles from WWII to the present. May
involve just Bill Butler, Tom Yarborough and me, but anybody else is
welcome. Contact Hans Halberstadt, hans@militaryphoto.com, for directions
and details.
Friday, 26 Oct -- most people arrive in Bay Area and check into motels.
Nothing formal planned till evening. People who show up early will make
arrangements to lunch together, or get plastered at the 2AM Club;
Friday, 3pm, Tour of Tam: meet at the Clock Tower. (If you can't find the clock tower, you have been away too long). The principal will address us then we will get a guided tour from one of the staff. They want to know how many to expect so please RSVP and let me know if you're up for this.
Friday night mixer, 7pm -- informal, no host drinks and dinner -- Piatti's
(625 Redwood Highway, across the freeway from the Strawberry Shopping
Centre) is the designated dining location -- nice view of the mudflats
although you can't actually see Tam High, reasonable prices (for Marin), and
an accommodating staff, according to Conrad. You already have reservations
about this whole reunion thing, but if you want to have dinner at Piatti's
with the rest of us, make your reservations with the restaurant right
away!!!! (415) 380-2525. Mention you are with the Tam High group.
Friday night, 9pm -- Dian and Hans and anybody else who wants to -- visit
2AM Club for drinks. Previously scheduled fistfight cancelled.
Saturday, Oct 27 -- morning -- informal breakfast at the Dipsea Cafe on
Shoreline in Tam Valley, 8am to 10am. This place tends to fill up but we
will try to get a table for twelve or so if you contact Conrad Breece and
pledge (scout's honor) that you'll be there. Dipsea Cafe is on Shoreline Highway, on the South end of Mill Valley near the Tam Valley Junction. The address is 200 Shoreline Highway and the phone is DUnlap 1-0298. They open at 7 and don't take reservations, but may seat us at tables together, if we promise to behave.
Saturday morning -- Chip Collins First Fearless Foursome Fortieth Fantasy --
a golf extravaganza hosted by our own esteemed previous president -- four
foursomes, get your reservations in early by contacting Chip at
ecollins34@hotmail.com or call at (415) 567-3921.
Saturday midday -- optional bring your own brown bag lunch, Very Senior
Bench, Tam High. Picnic supplies available at Safeway, across the street.
No reservations required.
Saturday afternoon -- setup and decorations (if any) at OAC; alternate Tam
tour time
Saturday 5:30 pm -- Arrive at Outdoor Art Club. Bar is open and the drunken revel begins. Mix and greet ("I know you!.."), settle in for a great evening...
Saturday 6pm -- Sita's Review. Don't miss this! She sings! She prances!
Direct from her highly acclaimed European tour and command performances
before royalty! The Class of 1961 in a nutshell (perhaps where it belongs!), set to music! Complete with the velvet tones of Nancy Piver and Lyn Elder!
Saturday 7pm-ish -- dinner is served, buffet style
Saturday 9pm-ish -- dancing, drinking, flirting. Hardcore members of the
class go outside to make out in same bushes they used 40 years ago.
Saturday 11ish -- first spouses of classmembers, pouting and looking
annoyed, drag husband or wife away from party claiming headache or other
lame excuse
Saturday 12ish -- first serious fistfights in patio area. Participants too
drunk to connect or to care will be carted off to the MV clink (a short
crawl, actually, from the OAC)
Sunday, 28 Oct. -- 1am -- last survivors depart, in or out of handcuffs
Sunday 9:30 am to noon -- brunch (for those who care) at Sam's Anchor Cafe in Tiburon where there is ample parking and at 10am a better chance of being seated together. There will almost certainly be LOTS of room on the deck at that hour, and a frigid breeze to wake you up (I will be inside, given a choice), after all the excitement of the night before.
Sunday afternoon -- all those who have made bail drive home or to the
airport. All have headaches. All spouses refuse to talk to Tam grads and
sulk. Tam grads all have smirky little smiles that drive their spouses
utterly mad. Everybody resolves to never, ever, do this again ... at least
until the next time.
End of reunion. Class dismissed.
Your faithful scribe,
Hans Halberstadt
