Dispatches from the right side of my brain.

Economic Downturn Blues: good advice for bad times.
I wrote this poem some time between 1999 and 2002.
- Christmas
Among the Beasts: this very short story, a satirical example of the
hard-boiled private eye genre, was written early in 2006.
It was inspired by the tradiition of television crime shows having
special "Christmas episodes." New 2010-06-04: this story is
now also available in
PDF format.

Don't Know Much About Deuteronomy:
I wrote this poem in June of 2006, just after "retiring"
from my last real job.
- Signs
and Portents: this poem, written early in 2009, was my way of
telling myself that it was time to give up on a lost cause and
move on.
-
On Looking: this poem was drafted way back when I was a
graduate student, then revised in 2009 and 2010. It is about
observing things "from the outside."
-
Do
Not Use Ladder: this poem was "co-written" by my friend
Caroline Eastman (principal author) and me. My part of the
writing was done in May 2010. It is a set of instructions
from a ladder manufacturer, admonishing the purchaser against
several ill-considered ways in which one might otherwise use their
product.
