"It happens at certain regular times of the day and night:
Voices in my head begin to question me
methodically
about something in my past --
a family member, a friend, a place I went to school or worked.
Over and over they ask questions.
They are repetitive,
as if initiated by a persistent inquisitor.
I try not to respond, but the process is seductive.

It is as if, violating my mind with insinuating whispers,
they are invading the very soul
of the private, cherished memories of my life."
- Judy Malloy, Ask for Sanctuary

Brain invasive technologies are more advanced than is generally
known or supposed; the possibility that governments could impose them
not only on military combatants but also on civilians -- including
artists, spiritual leaders, activists, critics of the military,
and personal enemies -- is of serious concern. The people who gather
together in the following narrative are working to overcome extreme
surveillance, including the secret misuse of brain scanning and other
invasive neuro-technologies. If the story at times seems difficult
for a wedding celebration, it should be remembered that many of the
characters are victims of wargame and intelligence agency
interference in their lives. They know this, but they do not want
such interference to mean that their happiness, the joy of living,
the enjoyment of their own wedding has been taken.
