On this day that celebrates working people
I am thankful that there are Unions
to help us achieve a nurturing workplace,
an adequate and regular salary to support us,
the benefits we need to insure our health,
pleasurable days of vacation to nurture our spirit.

On this Labor Day weekend,
I wish these things also for those who are often not represented:
those who do the important work of raising and taking care of their families,
seniors who live alone and struggle to take care of themselves,
people who can only find employment in minimum wage jobs,
managers who seek to create a nourishing workplace,
artists whose work creatively interprets the world in which we live,
spiritual leaders who help us look to the future
without despair.

We are all working people.
