used government equipment
to track artists, writers, and others whose voices they feared
and silence them in untraceable ways,
so that the public would never know their names.
(unlike overt censorship which brings public attention)

In the dream, government-funded criminals
developed undetectable ways to attack their political enemies.

They used artists as guinea pigs.

In the dream I saw our careers diverted and derailed
by a secret system of relentless harassment.

Thus were the voices of a generation of artists
muted.

We ask for sanctuary.
