Judy Malloy: Ask For Sanctuary
in 1775, there was an artist
who carried a warning
from Boston to Lexington
There are few memorials
to our fallen heroes and heroines
in the darkness of official denial
the loss to our civilization
of all who have died in such circumstances
the bells in the towns and the cities
were ringing for freedom and peace

I began to write this work because over the years I had become aware
of a covert, systematic persecution.
People of all walks of life were being attacked,
but because that is my community and because I myself was under attack,
I was particularly aware that artists, writers, dancers,
theater artists, and musicians were being targeted.
There was no concrete evidence to prove this,
and yet the pattern was very clear.
I wrote this work to call attention to the need to speak up
about what is happening. I believe that the people of many countries
would come together to stop this if they knew what was happening.
This work was also written for all of us who are persecuted:
We are heroines; we are heroes.
We ask for the help of our fellow citizens;
we ask for the help of our global community.
My story is from one point of view,
but I believe that true conservatives --
those who respect people who hold different views --
have also been persecuted.
Although sometimes told with dreams and fables, the words in this work
are based on years of observation. I hope they have helped
-- not only to reveal the terror but also to let others who are persecuted
know that they are not alone.
It appears that our government has failed in its duty
to inform the public of a clear and present danger
which it has been ineffective in combating.
It is very important that those,
who are in a position to clearly tell the story to the public,
come forward.
_________
For all who are subjected to a relentless and cruel psychological torture,
For all who as I do scream silently,
knowing not only that we must daily endure physical and spiritual pain
but also that there are human beings who condone
such cruel and heinous incursions on our minds and bodies --
may peace and love be with you
as I hope they will one day
be there for me.
We ask for sanctuary.
We define sanctuary as a return to freedom for our homelands.
