Reproduced side by side, manuscript pages were painted so carefully that they appeared to be real, but they were not exact copies. The artist had picked out eight passages from Pride and Prejudice, studied photographs of Austen's manuscripts, practiced until she was able to emulate her handwriting, and then created the painting.
