Okay, I admit to
becoming a delirious drooling optimist.
May one be sappy
about grown children?
Commencements, I've seen 'em -
high school, college, and graduate school -
all in one week,
each the same joyful scene:
exuberant spirits in cap and gown
surrounded by somewhat dazed
but oh-so-proud parents
who are just coming to grasp
that we are no longer the point.
Just look at these babies:
suddenly adult, beautiful, smart,
wildly energetic, soberly idealistic.
The planet is in good hands.
