The 1995 WELL Office Picnic will be held on Saturday, July 15th at Dunphy Park in Sausalito, California. It's scheduled to begin at noon, and continue to 7PM. There is no admission charge for the picnic: all WELL folks, potential WELL folks, their issue, and hangers-on/out will be welcome. Pets are permitted in the park (however, small rodents and insects might disappear into the grass, and large ungulates will find the quarters cramped.)
Sausalito is located just north of the Golden Gate bridge. The park is off Sausalito's main street (Bridgeway) between Napa and Locust streets. It is accessible by car, public transit, and watercraft. The "Office" part is particularly apt this year, since it is one block away from the WELL's offices at 1750 Bridgeway.
Dunphy is a cozy park with a mix of open and shaded areas. Most of the park is a grassy lawn, but there is a sandy beach (swimming is "not advised") and a sandpile for play. There's a bandshell/gazebo structure. Overgrown horseshoe courts are at one end of the park. Sanitary facilities seem to consist of a "porta-potty," but the WELL's bathrooms will be available. There is an impressive barbecue facility, and running (cold) water. There doesn't appear to be any electricity readily available.
Our current understanding is that, while our permit runs until 7PM, we may stay later as long as we don't cause the citizenry to complain. We'll be allowed to consume alcoholic beverages. Nothing has been said about music, but it's difficult to imagine that we'd run into problems if we keep the volume reasonably low.
The WELL will be providing some tables and seating, the BBQ fire, some beverages and utensils. We'll provide containers for trash and recycling. Help with the cleanup is very much desired.
If you're coming to the picnic, you might bring food and additional beverages to share. We expect a turnout of 75-150 people. Also, you'll probably want to bring a blanket for the post-repast snooze, and some bug repellent/sunscreen. If you're thinking of staying after dark, it'd be wise to being a flashlight and some warmer clothing. There is a large supermarket about 1 mile away, and there are convenience stores and delis within easy walking distance.
So: please plan on joining with your fellow WELLbeings for an afternoon of al fresco noshing and non-virtual schmoozing.
That's July 15th!
