Welcome to the home page of GraceAnne Andreassi DeCandido, militant cyberfeminist; Italian-American mama; information angel; passionate reader, writer, editor, and reviewer; Yankee fan since birth; occasional vegetarian, and unrepentant tea drinker.

These days, I am chiefly a book reviewer and teacher of children's and YA literature.

Former, current, and potential students, if you wish to email me, please use my Rutgers address: decandido AT scils DOT Rutgers DOT edu

Blue Roses Consulting is my business. My clients have included the American Library Association and the Association of Research Libraries. If it has to do with words and libraries, I do it. My biography includes links to much of the work I have done.

What's LadyHawk reading?
I have been a book reviewer for more than 30 years (since November 1973). I post links every so often to my current favorite titles.

I include a tiny essay on "How to Write a Decent Book Review" and an even tinier bit of advice on how to get started reviewing. My son, the writer and pop culture demigod Keith DeCandido and I, also offer an essay about writing for a living.

My email address comes from my favorite movie, Ladyhawke. The name of my business comes from Tennesse Williams' play, The Glass Menagerie.

What's LadyHawk writing and saying?
A favorite is my article on Giles, Hero Librarian, from the television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

I have done a fair amount of speaking to library audiences, and I have a few of my presentations here:

  • "Technology is the campfire around which we tell our stories"
  • Ten Graces for New Librarians
  • Words Are All We Have: A Very Brief Disquisition on Librarians, Access, Technology, Feminism, and the Truths of Things
