Responsibilities:
- Collaborated on selection and
training of new conference hosts, as well as ongoing training
and support of existing hosts.
- Assisted hosts with technical and cultural aspects of opening new conferences.
- Helped coordinate host and community events. Lead tutorials and hosting workshops.
- Presented the WELL and Internet culture to the press (national and international) and to organizations and other groups, both internally and externally.
- Participated in policy discussions online and in person, with staff, hosts and users.
- Created the position of Conferencing Coordinator in close collaboration with the Conferencing Manager.
- Trained additional Conferencing Coordinators.
Accomplishments:
- Developed Independent conferences - a new service allowing users to set up their own experimental or personal conferences.
- Worked closely with WELL staff and outside contractors on design and documentation of interface upgrades and other projects, with an emphasis on understanding the cultural implications of technical decisions.
- Woodstock '94 - helped plan and run the WELL/Woodstock net connection, introducing concertgoers to the WELL and the net. Hosted the WELL's Woodstock conference and assisted with creation of web pages (onsite, in a big tent
in the mud!)
- Collected URLs for WELL Conference Resource pages - searched for excellent sites related to conference subject areas to assist hosts in developing resource pages for their conferences.
- Represented host and user concerns to staff and vice-versa, both online and in face-to-face meetings.
- Developed databases and systems for tracking and evaluating conferences.
- Worked on a survey to gather host feedback about tools and support, and collect suggestions for potential new hosts.
