Devil's Bridge

The road to Barga winds through a narrow valley that's bisected by a river. Arching over this river is an ancient stone structure commonly called Devil's Bridge. Local legend says the townsfolk struck a bargain with the Devil. If he would build the bridge, they would let him keep the soul of the first one to cross it. But when the bridge was completed, the townsfolk sent a pig across the bridge, and the Devil had to be content with the soul of a swine.

The gray day and intermittent rain did little to dampen our enjoyment of this amazing structure.
