Ian McKenzie #note Group One is in the passage north of the entrance, and is just within sight of dim, filtered daylight. #note These formations are slightly moist but firm in texture, the walls and surrounding passage are dry . #note Although it had rained the day before, Formation One was not dripping as before, so no water samples #note were collected. Formation One measures 23cm x 16cm and is 22cm high. Formation Two has #note previously been described as 'deflated' in shape, but upon closer inspection may be a small sphere with #note a second deposition hanging off one side. It is 19cm.x.-l4cm (tapering to 12cm) and 21cm high. #note Formation Three, the smallest in ~ x 11 cm x 11 cm, and was observed as having a small, #note hard broccoli-like spray erupting from the bottom entrance side; it is hard to say whether this is the #note substrate for the 'ball' formation or was formed subsequently. However other broccoli-like formations #note were observed elsewhere in the cave (see photo). group1 outer bag bacteria 1,/yellow lobes group1 outer bag bacteria 2,/yellow #note 1 came from Formation One, at the middle of the side #note facing towards the centre of the passage (right #note side as you look towards entrance). ib 1 edge,/cream dull #note 2 came from Formation Two, middle of the side #note facing away from the entrance (side facing you as you #note look towards the entrance). ib 2 pink,/pink,cat+ ib 2 white,/white,cat+,g-r,len3,wid1 ib 2 yellow,len2-4,wid1-3,g-b,cat+,/yellow shiny ian-2,g+r,wid1.0,len5.0,^chains #note 3 came from the bottom of Formation Three. ib 3,/no growth pdy #note 3.1 came from one of the hard broccoli-like nodules #note that erupt from the bottom of Formation Three #note towards the entrance side. ib 3.1,/contaminant #note X came from a ceiling formation that may be a ball #note formation that is irregular in shape and attached ~ #note fully to the ceiling, a short distance #note closer to the entrance. ian-x.1,cit-,mrd-,nit-,ure-,s-bbb--,t----- ib X,/several bacteria some lobed #note W A came from the wall (right as you #note face the entrance) closest to #note Formation Two, where the wall #note covering is a dry and flaky coating. ian-wa,^amoeba #note WB came from a shelf below W A sample site, #note where the wall covering is dry hard nodules. ian-wb.1,mrd-,cit-,nit-,s-bbb--,ure-moxi+,cat-,ind-,vog-,g-r,len3.0,wid1.0,^chains silica chips ian-wb.2,mrd-,cit-,nit+,ure-,oxi+,cat-,vog-,ure-,^difficult ian-wb.3,/purple,oxi+,cat+,ure+,mrd-,vog-,cit-,s+bbb--,t-----,^see bergy ian-wb.4,g-r,len1.0-2.0,wid0.5,^pointed,fla+,mot+ ian-wb.4a,ure-,cit-,mrd-,vog-,ind-,oxi+,cat+,s+bbb--,t-----,/spore,g-r,len2.0-4.0,wid1.0 ian-wb.4b,ure-,cit-,mrd-,vog-,ind-,oxi+,cat+,s+bbb--,t-----,/large,g-c,dia2.0-5.0 ian-wb.5a,ure-,cit-,mrd-,vog-,oxi+,cat+,/spore,g+r,len2.0-4.0,wid1.0,s+bbb--,nit-,ind- ian-wb.5b,ure-,cit-,mrd-,vog-,oxi+,cat+,/large,g+c,dia2.0-5.0,s+bbb--,ind-,nit- ian-wb.6,ure-,cit-,mrd-,vog-,ind-,oxi+,nit-,catk,t-----,s-bbb--,g+r,wid2.0,len3.0-4.0,/mixed ib wb 1,/spreading,catk,g-r,wid0.75,len1.5 #note Group Two is in a passage south of the entrance and beyond any daylight penetration; the passage here #note is generally wet and in fact the floor had a small amount of running water, although none of the #note formations have ever been observed dripping. There is extensive moist moonmilk in this area. #note Formations in Group Two tend to be quite soft and moist in texture. Group Two formations seem to be #note more obviously coated with a second (subsequent to sphere) moonmilk deposit. Formation Four is 7cm #note x 6cm and 7cm high. Formation Five is 9cm x 9cm and 13cm high including a moonmilk 'beard'. #note Formation Six is irregular in shape and attached to the ceiling with a maximum dimension (length) of #note 19cm group2 outer bag fungus,/fungus spores black group2 outer bag bacteria 1,/yellow group2 outer bag bacteria 2,/yellow lobes #note 4 came from Formation Four, #note at the middle of the side. ib 4 mixed organisms,/fungi and bacteria ib 4,/nocardia,catk,^filaments branching #note 5 came from Formation Five, #note from the bottom. ib 5,/contaminant #note 6 came from Formation Six, #note similar in shape to formation X in Group One. ib 6,/no growth pdy ian-6a,g-r,wid1.0,len5.0 ian-6b,g-c ian-6c,len10.0,wid3.0 ,^arthrospores long chains rectangular #note W2 came from the right hand #note wall in the photo, where there #note is extensive moonmilk. ib w2,^filaments,cat+,/Geotrichum ian-w2.1,cit-,mrd-,nit-,s-bbb--,ure-,t----- #note end
