1000 Point Club

Twenty-three Huskies are in the 1,000 point club. Four more could join that exclusive group this year.

Ashley Battle enters the season with 796 points, needing 204.

Jessica Moore has 947, so will pass the 1,000 barrier with 53 more points.

Ann Strother has 768 points, so needs 232 more.

Barbara Turner has 857, so will reach the milestone with another 143.

Block watch

Diana Taurasi starts the year fifth in career blocks among UConn players with 120.

Players ahead of her:

  1. 396    Rebecca Lobo
  2. 370    Kara Wolters
  3. 181    Kelly Schumacher
  4. 162    Peggy Walsh

She is averaging just over a block a game, so she might overtake Peggy Walsh to move into 4th place. Not bad for a guard.

Update: Through the Auburn game (23 Mar) DT has 142 blocks. As noted earlier, with a gimpy ankle, blocks may be rarer from here on. She's only had one in the last eight games.

Assists

DT had 478 assists through her first three seasons.

Update: Through the Auburn game (23 Mar) DT has 636 assists, in second play all-time, just one behind Jen. Diana has stated that she is more interested in the assists record than the points record.

  1. 637     Jennifer Rizzotti         135 games, 1993-96
  2. 636     Diana Taurasi
  3. 585     Sue Bird                   118 games, 1999-02
  4. 546     Pam Webber            131 games, 1992-95
  5. 541     Jill Brumbaugh          107 games, 1985-88
  6. 531     Laura Lishness          119 games, 1988-91
  7. 473    Svetlana Abrosimova 127 games, 1998-01
  8. 456    Shea Ralph                 128 games, 1997-01
  9. 422    Sandy Gavin               110 games, 1981-84
  10. 413    Debby Baer                125 games, 1989-92

Career Points

Diana Taurasi has 1588 points through her first three seasons, so needs 590 points to tie the record, and 591 to hold the record outright. She needs to score slightly over 16 points per game to set the record. If she wants to, she can, but she has convinced me that she has other goals, and won't even try for the record if it interferes with helping develop the team to win a Big East Championship and National Championship.

Update: Through the Auburn game (23 Mar) DT has 2073 points!

All-time Huskies list:

  1. 2178    Nykesha Sales
  2. 2177    Kerry Bascom
  3. 2141    Kara Wolters
  4. 2133    Rebecca Lobo
  5. 2073    Diana Taurasi
  6. 1865    Svetlana Abrosimova
  7. 1678    Shea Ralph

Three Point Shots

Diana Taurasi has 233 treys through her three seasons, in second place behind the all-time Husky leader Wendy Davis, who has 279. She needs 46 to become the all-time Husky leader in this category, She averaged 1.8 per game last year. It's too early to be projecting which game she would break the record, but at last year's pace, it would happen in late February.

Maria Conlon entered the season with 112 treys, just outside the top ten list.

Update: Through the Auburn game (23 Mar) DT has 310 treys. She is in first place all-time, having passed Wendy Davis during the Tennessee game. Maria Conlon has moved into fifth place on the list.

  1. 296    Diana Taurasi
  2. 279    Wendy Davis
  3. 207    Sue Bird
  4. 207    Jennifer Rizzotti
  5. 166    Maria Conlon
  6. 161    Kerry Bascom
  7. 151    Kristin Lamb
  8. 141    Svetana Abrosimova
  9. 134    Nykesha Sales
  10. 133    Amy Duran

Three Point Field Goal Percentage

Sue Bird holds the career record for three point percentage, shooting an impressive 45.9%. Diana Taurasi has hit 39.3% of her they attempts so far, putting her in 7th place overall. She will probably end up in the top ten all-time.

Interestingly, the minimum numbers of threes to make the list is 40 in a career. Stacey Marron made 10 treys as a freshman, and 10 as a sophomore, exactly on track to hit 40 for a career. So far, she is hitting at an astounding 57.1% clip. If she can hit 20 more, she only has to hit at a 38.5% rate to earn the top career three point shooting percentage.

Update: Stacey isn't hitting at the astound rate she did in her first two seaons, only 2 for 11 through the BC game. However, that still leaves her with a 47.8% career percentage, still higher than anyone else, if she can reach the minimum.

Games Played

Asjha Jones has played in the most games as a Husky, 144. Diana has played in 109 games so far. She can set the record, but it will require making it to the BE Championship and the National Championship game. Maria Conlon has played in 100 games, and, barring injury, is likely to make it into the top ten.
