The new shed for the Cal Sailing Club.

This innovative design is the product of a semester of development by a U.C. Berkeley architecture class in close collaboration with CSC.

Despite an opportunity to have the structure built next semester by the architecture students at very low cost, permitting bottlenecks may kill the project.

While other municipalities support similar community boating programs to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars per year, the unsubsidized Cal Sailing Club has to fight the City bureaucracy for something as basic as a timely use permit. Aside from the long lead time, it seems that in the current financial climate even non-profits dedicated to public access are being charged commercial rates for permitting services.
