The San Francisco Bay Water Transit Authority conducted a one-day preview of the anticipated ferry service from the Berkeley Marina to San Francisco.

This 250-passenger 25-knot vessel can travel the 5.6 miles from the Marina Entrance to the SF Ferry Building in 14 minutes. It costs $400/hour to operate.

The old ferry pier location inside the Marina adds an average of about ten minutes of low-speed maneuvering to each leg, so regular service will probably involve constructing a new terminal on or near the fishing pier or close to Hs. Lordships restaurant, among other siting options.

Commuter service could begin as early as 2007, although 2009 or 2010 is more likely.
