Hi,

I have just been reading your site, if there is space please post my  message on the Comments page. You can include my email address and name.

This is a great site that I wouldn't have thought possible a few years  ago. There look to be a lot of ignorant bigots posting on this Comments  page. The other day I was reading in a magazine an account of a woman's  experience of living in Saudi Arabia, and she said there is a lot of homoerotic
Affection and gay male sex going on among Saudis. I don't think gayness is at all  a western import or invention, it's probably a thing like a natural  impulse for who we choose to sleep with. And I don't think it's a default to be heterosexual: many people who consider themselves straight have had gay
experiences or desires. Then there are self-identified bisexuals. Then of course there are  virgins,
celibate people, and asexual people.

It's restrictive to define one's own orientation by the sex or  perceived gender of one's partner: it can be more intellectually rewarding to  select a partner on the basis of their personality. After all, what stage of development are we stuck at if we're thinking with our genitals? : )

OTOH people who have clearly defined identities: gay, straight, bi,  etc, that's okay too. People should not be forced into a set destiny based  on the shape of their body: we have choice, and should be able to use our  reasoning to work out the best thing to do in any situation. We do not currently  have a law making people who have some physical flaw or a particular skin  tone,
second class citizens. That would be discrimination, and we cannot do  the same to gay or trans people and pretend that discrimination against  them is acceptable.

Also, nobody should be tortured for being gay. That is an outrage  against human rights. Respect for people and an unwillingness to cause suffering is common to all religions. It is not appropriate to kill people simply  for being who they are, and even so, the rules about burning, burying,  stoning,
immuring, crushing etc were likely thought up by sadistic people who  didn't know any better....

I think the prohibitions I have read relate to the ritual rape of  prisoners of war, male slaves, young boys, etc. Perhaps what is being said (I  read the Qur'an twice) is that 'people must not commit rape'.

I'm not a Muslim, but I have had a lot of Muslim friends in the past. I  am interested in Islamic culture also. By the way, I'm not a Christian or  a Jew, either.

I wish you well with your site, it must take a lot of courage to  identify openly as a Queer Muslim. Tolerance of differences is probably a higher ethical principle than unthinking persecution of the different. People  who are different usually can't do anything to change that difference.

Asalamu alikum my dear Brother

Even taking the fact that I do not know you personally, still I would like to say that I am proud of the work you are doing. I am myself a convert to Islam who happened to be GAY. I have been under a lot of pressure of my local community to get married and life a " Straight " life. But is living a straight life include living a lie? How can we deny who or what we are and in the process going around hurting other people close to us only to give satisfaction to the ignorant.

As long as I can thing back I remember having homosexual feelings or tendencies, even before I did knew what sex was all about. I did not know what it meant to be gay, so how could I then choose to be  gay?  It does not make any sense to me when people say that we are following our own "perverted desire". To be frank with you all, I do not desire persecution or being thrown down from a cliff to be killed, crushed under wall or stoned to death. Only an idiot or a suicidal maniac would
love and enjoy  that kind of lifestyle. OK I could life celibate, in order not to live a lie, for the rest of my life.....but how many of  our straight brothers and sisters would be able to cope with that
themselves?

I do believe that Allah created all of us, He is the only one who knows how we will end up living our life's, so why do people still believe that Allah creates some people to be persecuted in order to be brutally killed. Where is mercy come in to that.  We are human beings with feelings and have the right to live. Remember the time that every  baby-girl was to be buried alive only because for the reason that they where born a female?  I and so many others are born this way. Islam is not about gender or
sexuality but about the worship of Allah, and no one has the right to forbid anybody to do just that. Allah does not forbid anybody to  worship Him, so who are people to do just that.

Asalamu alikum my  brother may Allah bless you and keep you save in  this live and in the next.

Your Brother in Islam,
Abdul

Dear Sulayman X, i am a sunni muslim of arab decent and i am proud of who i am. i am  also heterosexual and to tell you the truth, i know very little or nothing about the homosexual community and i am really not interested in  learning that much about it either. i had heard about gay muslims existing from various friends of mine. i thought they were joking with me, so i  decided to look it up on the internet and lo and behold, there it was - a bunch of sites about queer muslims and queer arabs. indeed i was shocked. i knew homosexuality existed everywhere you went in life, but i had no  idea that homosexuality held a signifigant existance in the muslim  community. even if only 5% of all muslims are gay, that's still 50 million people.  i have to be honest sulayman. all of the websites trying to advocate homosexuality and islam just shook me, they shocked me and made me feel embarrased of who i was. but then i got to your article and i started reading about you. you were a convert who had left christianity to convert to islam in a muslim community consisting primarily of blacks. but the blacks and you shared no racial tension because islam unifies everyone reguardless of race, color or nationality. but when it comes  to homosexuality, that is a different topic. see sulayman, i was raised by  a strict muslim who strongly opposes homosexuality. and i like my father  do not feel that being gay is natural either. however my father has raised me on the principal that the vast majority of people choose to be that way while very few are born that way. others have told me that they  feel the vast majority of people are born gay while very few choose to be  that way. you know what i think sulayman based on what i've seen around me?  i think that it's probably a 50 - 50 split, more or less. some gays are born that way and some gays choose to be that way. my personal feelings are that if one chooses a homosexual lifesyle, he should be burnt and disreguarded from islam in anyway, shape or form because he is intentionally violating the law of nature and the law of god. but if someone, especially someone who is muslim tis truely born gay and  cannot help the way he is or change his ways whatsoever, then it's not his fault. not only that sulayman, but i don't think that allah is going to punish someone for being the way that he intended him to be. from  reading many exerpts of yours sulayman, it seems to me that it was not your choice in the matter to choose a homosexual lifestyle and you should  not be punished for something that you were born as. i hope that you will continue to embrace the religion of islam and not leave the one, true religion that allah has intended for all mankind. you are better off being gay and muslim than gay and non - muslim. so if you were truely born that way sulayman and you do not have the ability whatsoever to change, then i really don't think that allah is going to reject your faith in islam. God wants us all to turn to islam and choose the right path for our lives. i'm sorry sulayman, but for those who choose to be gay or bisexual or even transvestites and claim islam on top of that, they can all drop dead and eat horse shit. because if you CHOOSE any other lifestyle other than a heterosexual one and try to claim islam as well, then to hell with you. but it seems to me that you were born that way and i'm sorry you have to go throught the torture and ridicule from other muslims.
sincerely,
kaldun abu samra

YOU SHOULD REPENT IMMEDIATELY, AND ALLAH TO GUIDE YOU. YOU ARE ONLY TRYING TO FIND WAYS TO PROVE WHAT YOU DO IS RIGHT. YOU CANNOT USE THE QURAN TO JUSTIFY WHAT YOU SAY, NOR CAN YOU TWIST ITS MEANINGS LIKE THE JEWS AND CHRISTIANS DONE WITH THEIR BOOKS. THE PROPHET (PBUH) SAID THERE WILL BE PEOPLE FROM MY NATION (CALLING THEMSELVES MUSLIMS) AND WILL PRACTICE THE ACTIONS OF THE PEOPLE OF LOT. HE ALSO SAID THAT THERE IS THE HOMOSEXUAL LOOK, TOUCH, AND THE ACT ITSELF, AND THEY ARE ALL CURSED. SO PLEASE REPENT BEFORE ITS TOO LATE.

No offense, but I would rather request you to belong to the normal  category  of people, the way God intended people to be, and try to avoid His  Anger. I  hope more from you especially that you are a Muslim. You also know  that  scientific findings have found gay relationships to be more  harmful/disease  causing. Allah forbade that centuries ago what scientists are finding  out  today. Please educate yourself, read Quraan where it is stated that a  whole  group of people belonging to Hazrat Loot Aleh Salaam were destroyed  because  they were gays.

You talk about being Muslim. you talk about knowing your religion. Then tell me why when God created Adam and Eve and put them on this earth he didn't create them as Adam and Steve? Does not that make you question what Allah ment from the begining. So I guess you read the Quraan trying to find support for what you do within it, but you have not even uncovered the truth that lies in the Quraan or even relalized the simpilist stories that we take 3ibrah from in order not to make the mistakes that our ancestors did. I give you straight from the Quraan a story that if you don't take seriously and truly understand it then you do not by any means deserve to be a Muslim in any shape or form until you repent. When Allah sent rules and regulations for us on how to live and what is right and what is wrong, His Holliness knew what He was doing and for the right reasons.  Let me ask you, Do you know what gay practicing in Islam is and what it is refferred to in the Quraan?
Let me tell you weather you know or not. It is Lout or Liwat. DO you know all the prophets or at least some of them? Do you know their stories and messages to their villages that they came with? Well, there is the story of the Prophet Lout. With his story you will know how the word Liwat came up until today in Arabic and in Islam. To make it short in Lout's village men chose males over females for sexual partners. Allah was so mad and furious that he punished this village and it's bad people by turning them into Mokeys and Pigs. The verse from the Quraan that states this story basically says (and you can look up the story if you truly are a muslim) "wa maskhnahum qiradatan wa khanazeer" It is stated clearly in the Quraan and as you say you are a Muslim so you can't defend yourself by saying the Quraan has been changed or else you would be contradicting yourself and you and I both know that is not true.
On the other hand this simply explain why pigs, apes and humans are so alike genetically from this story. because everything in this world from science has an explanation that comes from the Quraan. Some think that Muslims are nuts because of totally not believing in eveloution. But, hey I know better and you should to because you claim to be a Muslim. What about the many diseases in this world that have no cure? Majorly Aids. It all became more popular because of homosexual practices by males. Look at where we humans have become today. All because of you and your practices. if you are truly a Muslim go back and read the Quraan carefully time after time until you fully understand that what you are doing is totally wrong.
You should be proud of being a Muslim, but giving us such a bad image truly puts you under the punishment of being damned until Judgement Day and that you will end up in Hell. These are not my words but God's Supbhanahu wa Ta3ala. Dare you not ever claim again that God can support you. And that Allah will be with you for you are only gaining more sins. This world is corrupt and I do not understand how you can ever think that you are right and Allah will support you. I feel sorry for you, especially that we are fasting and it is Ramadan. Please for your own sake reconsider and think of what I tol;d you. From one Muslim to another that wants only what is best for you. To put it blankly even a lot of Christians think that all poeple are born Heterosexual and that is fact including Gay people and these gay people have mental homosexual problems. I urge you to reconsider and think of the consequences, not just on Earth but when you are standing on the front line infront of Allah on Judgement Day.   Muslima from the heart, Forat El-Sayed

TO begin with I'm not sure if this going to the right person or group,  but  this is to whom he pretends to be a muslim then a "gay",to that guy in  our  religion which is Islam, first if you are not a muslim don't bother  reading, and if you pretend to be a muslim gay then this is for you; It  is  absolutely your right to be what ever want to be We are not God to  punish  you, but don't say about Islam what is not right, about something that  is  forbidden in Islam. And as a muslim I expect you to believe in what our  prophet had said.and he said if you ever find people how do this sin  then  kill them both, and this sin is to be a gay. and he also said seven God will be mad from and he will not look at  them at  the day of judgment and he will say to them go to hell with the people  that  are entering hell two of them are who make the sin and that sin is to  be  gay. so if you think that hell is your final home, then i don't blame you,  but  muslims don't think so, so you are not a muslim and stop saying things  about  Islam that are not right.
Please send me back, and if you are not satisfied put your phone number  and  I will be more than happy to discuss it with you. This is for every one that all we know he is on "thalala" .

Hi. I was just wondering - if you say that Islam has been the most  harsh about homosexuality, why are you a Muslim? Wouldn't it make more sense  if you just left Islam?
I'm Muslim & believe in Islam, but am not a gay basher. I do, however, believe homosexuality is an act that is prohibited in Islam. This,  along with fornication, adultery, drinking alcohol, etc. So if you decide  that you want to indulge in something that is prohibited, that's your  decision to make. You can't expect the faith to change to accomodate your personal desires. I'm sure it would've been easier for me to have pre-marital relations, not have to pray, etc. But that's not the point of being  Muslim. You can still be Muslim, but you certainly can't expect us to open our  arms to people who are openly and proudly disobeying God's commands.....

Assalaamu "alaykum,
A"oodhu billaahi min ash-Shaytaan ir-rajeem. The homophobic view of many muslims expressed on your site is most distressing; they seems to be big on rules concerning how homosexual  acts are haraam (with which I concur), but uninformed about rules concerning defamation of fellow muslims. There is no doubt some bigotry at play  here. After all, there are much more worrying problems such as people who  think that Elijah Mohamed or Baha'ullah were prophets, or that the Prophet  (saw) was not a human being; yet people who believe these things do not seem  to be the targets of such hatred.
This site gives Shaytaan the ability to whisper to people on both sides of the issue, and this leads me to  question the sincerity of your maintaining this site. You may genuinely not be convinced by the evidence that there is no halaal way to  practise homosexuality, but if this website has any purpose other than providing Jerry-Springer-esque controversy, then I suggest that the least you  could do is not disgrace the ummah by publishing all the hate-mail you  receive. Please stop letting them drag you down to their level.

 Hello there!
I don't know where to begin. I have so many thoughts I'd like to  express about these two issues -- homosexuality and religion. I don't exactly  consider myself a good writer and I know I'm not talented when it comes to  engaging in debates. Any ideas that I have usually keep rushing through my head  in all directions and I have a hard time organizing them. But after  having  read some of the (rather mediocre) emails you've received I felt that  maybe  my  writing isn't too bad after all. So here comes my two cents' worth:
I'm a unicorn. That's right: I don't exist. I am a homosexual  struggling to believe in your religion. A lot of irate followers I have come  across and  a lot of those who write to you obviously feel that you cannot embrace  this religion if you're a homosexual. I don't really know what to say to  them.  People can be very obstinate sometimes when it comes to what they  believe to be the truth. It's been my experience that it's extremely tough to get  a  person to reconsider their stance on what constitutes truth and  morality.  I am not writing this message to try and change the minds of those  heterosexuals  who have no time for the likes of us. Rather, I'm addressing you,  myself and  those who share our suffering.
My story is not really very unique. I was raised in a religious family  living in a religious society. I have known since around the age of 5 that I  was a homosexual. Of course, I had no name for it initially. I just knew I  was emotionally (and eventually, sexually) attracted to men rather than  women and that that was not the norm. I have always been disturbed by this orientation of mine. As a teenager, I wanted to change but didn't know  how.  I just prayed a lot and asked God to change me. OK, brace yourself for  a surprise now: I didn't change. So around the age of 18 or 19, I said  to myself: screw it, this isn't working! I became an atheist for a while  for no other reason than the fact that I felt unwelcome in religion.
Slowly though I realized that just because my religion is tough, just  because  it seems to be harsh on me and others who suffer like me, that doesn't  mean that it's not the truth. Then it dawned on me that all too often people tend to feel that what they like must be good/true and what they dislike must be evil/false. I didn't exactly rush back to religion  with open arms then. However, I basically decided to 'get real' and to start objectively studying religion vs. atheism. I decided to stop feeling  sorry  for myself all the time because of my affliction. I still feel I have  the  right to feel sorry for myself -- ours is a tough life even though  heterosexuals  might not fully realize it. However, I no longer want self-pity to  guide me through life. I no longer consider my problem to be the most important in the world. There are others who suffer a lot more than I do. I now  feel that in my search for the truth I should look at the big picture  and  not get too engrossed in one problem whether it's mine or someone  else's. I strongly believe now that if I let myself simply look for what feels  good  in life and label it as the truth I would be deceiving myself and,  possibly, misleading others along the way. I'm not implying that we should  reject all that which feels good. I'm just trying to say that I believe we  should  exercise some caution. Another thing I believe in is that what might feel harsh or repulsive at first might in fact be good for us. At this point let me stress that I'm not a glutton for self punishment. I  don't go around looking for what feels good only to discard it and embrace what  is harsh or feels bad. All I'm trying to say is that we should be  objective.
I'm sure you got the message by now.
The above was the main bulk of what I wanted to say to you and to  others who share our situation. I firmly believe that we should all think for  ourselves but I wanted to share with you what I consider a good way of reasoning. I hope you don't feel I'm imposing on you, because that's  the last thing I want to do, trust me!
Now, away from the abstract, here are a couple of specific points I wanted to mention about the issues of homosexuality and religion:
Apparently popular religions don't really condemn homosexuals as  people.  They just prohibit homosexual sex acts like oral sex and anal  intercourse.  That makes them tough for a lot of homosexuals. But does it make them evil/false?
Homosexuality is not necessarily genetic. No one knows for sure. Some people insist that it's a choice (something I personally find rather  hard to believe). Others insist that it's 100% biological. Neither group  really has the backing of science. You seem to belong to the second  group. There have been a few studies that tried to show that it's  genetically determined. Some of them were inconclusive while others were refuted by other scientists. It is in fact not true that the  scientific community has accepted the genetic theory. At this point  it's just that: a theory. I encourage those who are interested to visit the following site: www.narth.com. Let me warn you: it's a site that  contains a lot of opinions which you might dislike. Please try to look at it objectively though and to give others a chance to express their  understanding of how things are. They may be right. That is not a  hate site. It is not a pro-gay site either. It's a site that expresses the views of a small group of psychologists who don't quite go along with either one of the two main streams (the pro-gay and the hate-mongers).
Thank you for bearing with me. I hope you will be willing to post this message and thereby give me a chance to engage in this discussion and express my views. I would like my message to be anonymous.
I wish you and the rest of us a peaceful and happy life followed by a joyous afterlife. That is, if there is indeed such a thing as an  afterlife. Who knows!
Salaam...

I do thank you once again for your courage and wisdom and wish you the  best  of luck.

 hello,
I'm a muslim and gay too. But nevertheless I do not agree with your opinions about queer jihad. Being gay I understand your feelings but both you and me shall agree that homosexuality is forbidden in Islam. Remember the way the people of Loot(As) have been punished because of homosexuality. So concerning myself I'm going to seek the help of a psychiatrist so that I change by the grace of Allah.   I would also like to tell all those who used to curse and condemn you that they are completely wrong as Allah alone has the right to do this. By condemning and cursing you these people have made as if they were Allah themselves.   So on the day of judgement neither you nor me would like to get into hell. I suggest that you help our gay Muslim brothers by giving them advice how to quit from homosexuality as it is true that they are not responsible to be as they are actually. If you are wondering why I have not already seen a psychiatrist, it's just that I'm having problems in exposing my problem to one of them as in my country that is Mauritius there is no tolerance of homosexuality. So I've decided to phone one by one psychiatrist to see who can help me.
So, I'm ending here Sulayman and hope to read from you soon, then we'll be able to discuss of all about this.
So it's good bye from me.

Do you know that there is an ideological contradiction in claiming to  be homosexual and at the same time associating yourself with Islam. Please could you explain your justification for being a muslim and a  homosexual when the holy Koran condemns homosexuality.

THERE IS NO SUCH THING! I hate the thought of seeing the two  side-by-side.  May Allah rain stones on u as HE did with the tribe of Lut, and may He  swallow the earth with u and torment u with deafening noise as HE did  with  the tribe of Lut. The only nation to recieve Allah's anger to that extent while still on  earth. May u burn in the depths of HELL!!! Ameen!! U are a perverted son of a *( but then again, if u'r mom is a muslim (  implying one can't be both), may Allah bless her). Islam is, was, will  always be above that! :-k out!

This is the disgusting thing I've ever seen in this world. How can a man bend over his fellow man and fuck him? That is the worst thing ever happened to this world.Islam does not condone that kind of action, sodomising is a great sin in Islam as everybody knows from the people  of Lut who were destroyed because of that nusty action.A real muslim would not do that but as we muslims know, Sheitan comes in many ways and now that this person pretending to be a muslim and trying to link islam and homosexuality is not a muslim but a desciple of sheitan and may Allah curse him from now to the end of the world. Please note one thing if you don't like islam don't tarnish it with your filthy action you are a pig a descendant of sheitan.
REMEMBER NO ONE CAN DESTROY OR TARNISH ISLAM.THEY HAVE TRIED BEFORE YOU AND DIDN'T SUCCEED.SO,DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME GO FIND A SICK SHEITAN LIKE YOU AND FUCK.MAY ALLAH AND ALL HIS ANGEL CURSE YOU TO THE END OF THE WORLD.ALLAH BROUGHT ISLAM AND HE WILL DEFEND AND SAVE IT AS HE PROMISED.TELL YOUR PEOPLE YOU CAN NOT DO IT.

Hi guys! These pages are very interesting, I am overwhelmed. I'm saying this,  because  I visited Jordan this summer and met more gay men than I do when I go  to a  gay bar in the UK. I was suprised to see that gay men actually meet up  in a  county like Jordan. I don't consider it very strict, but some rules  seemed  to be quite hash. Another thing I noticed was: You will not be accepted as gay, but boys  and  men were holding hands and kissing each other on the mouth..... Well, in my country you would be considered gay if you did that, and  nobody  would actually bother. Can anyone axplain this????? Also, I met two  straight  men, who had sex with a goat, because that was (according to them) not  as  sinful as having sex with a girl before they got married......

the amount of crass swearing and foul-language used by those who claim  to be  true followers of islam is disturbing indeed. are you not a race of  people  who embrace harmony and peace.... and yet you jump on the muslim  bandwagon  screaming obscenities to the skies like madmen the minute you amount  enough  courage to say something. you are muslims...yet you don't act like  it... your  hate is so thick it foams around your lips when you speak to other  humans  that you seem like the devil himself. And alot of you need to learn,  get some  wisdom and education for only then will you live a life worth living.  Another  thing, those of you who condemn might try reading the dictionary once  in a  while because your spelling mistakes are horrendous.

From: labarron k edwards <khalilshahid@juno.com>

To those of you who worship the shaitan and your beastly desires,  I am a true Muslim and I am very disgusted about your  site. May Allah curse you all, and astaghfiruallah. How can you dare call yourselves Muslims!!!!!! is this the teachings of our beloved Prophet Muhammad(S.A.W.A.W.S.)?  !!!!!!NO!!!!!! Islam does not teach homosexuality. Can you come up  with evidence that Islam is in favor of homosexuality? It's fake Muslims  like all of you involved that gives Islam a poisoned outlook. Because of  your ignorance and temptations of the shaitan, thousands of people who look  at your site as reference to Islam will be under the misconception that Islam accepts homosexuality. I would like to know how you can recite  the glorious verses of the quran with a mouth polluted with the remnants of another man's penis. You are filthy, vile, disgusting individuals and may you all be sent to the valley of lust in barzakh where you will be tossed and turned through the filth of the valley in which you will be  in the black sut where you will have your flesh burned off of your body.  You will be disgraced on the day of judgement when you will be resurrected with the discharge of the vaginas from the prostitutes  coming from your mouths and noses and ears and every other orifice of your  body.
You claim that you were born to be homosexual but you are a bunch of liars and blasphemers and there is no way that you can dispute my  words.  You were not created to be sent to hell and sent to disgrace and destruction because that would mean that Allah is not just which is totally blasphemous.
Also Allah has given mankind the ability to  choose, whether it be right of wrong, and it is man who chooses to be  homosexual and it is a man who is going to be punished in the hellfire for that behavior. Furthermore, you have not considered the well being of the children who may happen to stumble onto your site. This message of  homo acceptance is a pollutant and a destroyer of all the morals and ethics  of mankind. The first Prophet of Islam, Adam(A.S.), and the first woman  of Islam, Eve, were created for a purpose which was to multiply and procreate so that the human race would be established, not to just have sex and have no purpose in the cycle of human existence. In closing I would like to say may Allah guide you to his truth and may he forgive  you for your unholiness and despicableness.
If you decide to stay on the path that you are on then may Allah curse and revile you all for  eternity and may you never have any peace in your lives and always be in a state of degradation. If you would like to respond to this e-mail contact me at labarronedwards@hotmail.com

what's up brother, I think everything that you say is completley wrong. You are attacking  islam  as a religion. You are saying that we can't follow rules that were set  1400  years ago. Why do you choose islam, you must accept ALL of it or none.  You  can't accept parts of the religion and disregard others. you are  making all  muslims look bad by advertising your gay beliefs. you are wrong.
