My World and Welcome To It

Admiring the view at Domaine St.Luc, Provence   Sept., 2000

How nice of you to drop in! Chances are, this place will be under construction for quite some time, so watch your step while I figure out where everything goes. I'm having great fun with links, hope you enjoy them!

How Did I Get Here?

I turned left at New Jersey. I was born there in 1949, down by the sea. Just as Brooooce hit big, I aimed myself at California, where I now live with my husband, David Gans, in Oakland. I blame Jon Carroll for piquing my interest in life online, and my friends Tom, Rachael and Dana for giving me my first computer and helping me learn how. I blame the Singthing crowd for the rest! The rest includes calling The Well my online home where I am a host of Women on the Well, Oakland, and Elderpri Conferences.

Real Life

Work

I work for the Unified School District in San Francisco's Children's Centers. I teach young children about themselves, each other, and the world around them. We play all day, and work hard at it!

Play

My non-work related passions are backpacking, gardening and art. I love to sing, and to dance. And I miss the Grateful Dead, who wove themselves in and out of my life in surprising ways I've yet to fully comprehend.

From May 1978 until September, 1996, I shared my life with a sweet, gray cat named Molly. We took great care of one another, a part of her will ever remain in me. Part of Molly's legacy is that I no longer feel a home is right without a cat in it, so on April 30, 1997,  David and I adopted two kittensfrom the Humane Society. Hugo and Groucho quickly settled into our hearts and home.

Past Lives

Waayy back there in another galaxy far, far away I worked on the Clearwater, a replica of a type of sailboat that used to ply the Hudson River and environs. It was inspired by Pete Seeger and a dream he had of the Hudson River running clean and clear. It was a pivotal experience in my life, I learned to dream big and live my ideals. The Clearwater is still sailing, nearly 30 years later, building community activism and birthing environmentalists.

After Clearwater, I moved to Vermont and filled up on bucolic hippie living. It was brief, though beautiful. In 1976, I followed my heart to San Francisco and almost immediately started to work in the Inner Sunset Community Food Store. Some 15 years later I emerged from produce buying and concensus decision making into the world of teaching. There were a couple of detours along the way, but it's the work with children that stuck.
