Professionals need focused opportunities to explore and to learn -- to figure out what is best for their specific situations. Richard has provided many such opportunities within companies as well as open to anyone.

Recent examples:

Moving User Experience into a Position of Corporate Influence

Professionals working to move user experience into a position of corporate influence are impeded by conflicting recommendations.

In this session (which has also been expanded into a workshop), Richard describes different perspectives on multiple issues, such as documenting and evangelizing UX work, ownership of UX, organizational positioning, calculating return on investment, and conducting "ethnographic" research, to facilitate a discussion about the roles they play or have played or might play in moving user experience into a position of greater influence in your company.

Managing User Experience Groups

This course is for those who presently or may in the future manage user experience groups. It is also for higher-level leaders whose domains encompass user experience.

Participants get the opportunity to explore all sorts of issues of importance to managing user experience groups via presentations, readings, discussions, and exercises, all focused on helping them address problems and issues they are encountering presently or are likely to encounter in the future.

Offered initially as a 6-session course via UC Extension in Silicon Valley during 2006, this offering can be customized for different situations, including in-house offerings.

DUX 2003 & DUX 2005

Designing for User eXperiences conferences bring together practitioners of multiple disciplines to explore factors which contribute to the creation of successful or unsuccessful user experiences. Real-world case studies are compared and contrasted to look at all facets of the product/service development lifecycle and at other facets of business as decisions are made that affect the user experience. Special insight is provided via invited plenary speakers and session chairs, as well as studio tours and tutorials, and social events facilitate networking across disciplines.

Richard was a Program Chair for the first DUX conference, held during June 2003, and was a Conference Chair for the second DUX conference, held during November 2005.
