This is Richard Raucci. I'm an writer/editor based in San Francisco. Here I am in a digitally-altered state with my son Philip at my summer home in Napa (actually it's the Domaine Carneros winery!).
There are more pictures of Philip and my wife Elizabeth Crane at her home page.
I write books for Springer Verlag and IDG Online , and I do contract editing for Netscape Communications' Developer Partner Program for the online magazine View Source. I recently wrote the book Netscape for Macintosh for Springer, available now at major bookstores. A sample chapter from one of my earlier books, Mosaic For Windows, can be found at Staceys' Books web site. My IDG Online projects include co-authoring Yahoo Unplugged, available in bookstores right now, and Yahooligans! Kid's Discovery Guide To The Web, a Web guide for ages 8-14, due July, 1996.
My freelance work has appeared in UnixWorld/ Open Computing, Publish, SunWorld/ Advanced Systems, Mac Computing, MicroTimes, NeXTWorld, PC World/ Multimedia World, InfoWorld, Electronic Entertainment and SegaVisions magazines. You can read business and technology reviews from Open Computing on companies like Hughes DirecTV, Blue Cross, and Pier One Imports at the links. You can also check out an ISDN hardware review and case study from Open Computing/UnixWorld, and a piece I did on upcoming Web technology for InfoWorld (use the Edit/Find command in your browser to search for "raucci" after you load the long article; my piece is a sidebar).
My writings are getting cited in some interesting places on the Web, like the US Army paper The World Wide Web and Its Implications in a Democratic Society and Singapore University's Temasek Journal article on Project Tarantula .
I also volunteer for the Exploratorium museum in San Francisco at their Internet exhibits, and I've produced a show called "On Ramp to the Information Superhighway" at Networld/Interop. Other projects included chairing panels on Internet Access Tools at Unix Expo in New York and UniForum in Atlanta. I may also be teaching classes at the UC Berkeley Extension program in Summer or Fall 1996.
I was involved in an ongoing HIV vaccine study being conducted by the University of Calfornia and the Biocine Corporation for five years. If you're interested in finding out more about HIV and AIDS, check out the Queer Resource Directory site. There's more info on vaccine work at VACTUP (Vaccine Advocates Committed To Universal Protection) and the Immune Response company web site.
