but is it art?

This frightening and addictive automated collage of images being uploaded to LiveJournal is refreshed every few minutes. It's a metaphor... Or something... I think.

context is everything

"Don't forget to register to vote" - Frank Zappa

This quotation is the tagline for my usenet communiques. A few days ago, I stumbled across a web video that helps give the Zappa quote necessary context. Watching Zappa being verbally abused by Robert Novak and some dope from the Washington Times on an old episode of CNN's Crossfire should help you to understand why Jon Stewart despises Crossfire so much. The show was canceled by CNN last year... At long last.

new John K blog

Yes, it's the best new blog of 2006. The creator of Ren & Stimpy is doing it on the web every day, more or less. It's educational. It's a freebie.

cartoons really endanger people... like Bush

The Dubya Dubai connection... This editorial cartoon by Riley of the Courier Publication Group looks much better than my deconstruction of it below.

"Dubya - John Snow - Bush's Treasury Secretary - Was Chairman of CSX Railroad - CSX Rail sold their port operations to - Dubai"

"Dubya - David Sanborn - Bush's head of U.S. Maritime Administration - Runs European & Latin American operations for - Dubai"

just say NOLA

Why now? Why encourage people to move back into areas that were submerged in the wake of Katrina? Levees meeting 21st century standards have not yet been constructed there.

The U.S. government at all levels is in denial about global climate change. There is a distinct possibility that another major hurricane will hit New Orleans this year. Or next year, or the year after that. Is New Orleans any better prepared to evacuate than they were last year?

cartoon protest

This cartoon looks like a piece of crap. I spent hours sweating obscure details. However, it wasn't all wasted effort because I'm starting to feel comfortable drawing cartoons with the new Wacom tablet and graphics software. In time it'll become second nature.

The concept is simple enough. I glanced at the phrase "Cartoon Protest" while reading an online newspaper. A thought tickled me. It might be funny if a cartoon protested being disrespected--rather than people protesting a disrespectful cartoon. It's a technique that's called comedic juxtapostion (I think) but never mind that. Unimportant.
