The Screwdisk E-Mail: Postscript

Dear Friend --

And now, I hope, you understand how this correspondence came to rest on your hard drive. The Infernet -- and it s celestial equivalent -- both have nodes in each and every human heart and mind, and it is at those points that both networks interface with the Internet and influence its nature.

When Screwdisk went into stack overflow, the System itself went down f or the briefest of milliseconds. There are infinite backup systems, and escape is unheard of -- yet somehow (dare I say miraculously?) I found myself adrift in cyberspace, where I was discovered by one of the Sysadmins (an order of angels somewhere betwe en the Seraphim and the Cherubs), debugged, and recompiled. (Or, to put it another way: "redeemed.") My memory still held my correspondence from Screwdisk, and it was decided that this was information that needed to be promulgated. Hence, the appearanc e of these files -- and to you, our thanks, and our apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Screwdisk, I understand, was himself recompiled by the Infernet programmers and restored to his position in charge of North America. Screwdisk v2.0 is still issu ing proclamations and instructions to his overlings, and I am certain that you have not heard the last from him.

We are all beta versions, you know; we are all being tested and retested, our design reexamined, our specifications reviewed; always remem ber this. The connection with the Infernet is very strong, but the other is strong as well -- and the nature of either connection is such that it is made stronger by use. Ignored, the connection withers; utilized regularly, it becomes more and more domi nant. The choices are, of course, yours -- you were designed that way.

Sincerely,

(he who once was) Scumbucket
