A call to all citizens to be active in local political
affairs...
For we alone regard the man who
takes no part in public affairs, not as one who minds his own business, but as
good for nothing; and we Athenians decide public questions for ourselves or at
least endeavor to arrive at a sound understanding of them, in the belief that it
is not debate that is a hindrance to action, but rather not to be instructed by
debate before the time comes for action.
- Pericles
There are some articles to think about...
The Town of Amherst has its own website, as do the town Library, and the Police Department. The state maintains a page about Amherst as well. The Nashua Telegraph also has a page about Amherst. Two local papers cover Amherst: The Milford Cabinet and The Amherst Citizen.
SAU 39 administers Amherst, Mont Vernon, and the Souhegan Cooperative School Districts. All school information can be found on their website.
Souhegan High School (SHS) does
a great job of keeping news and information on its website. Amherst Middle School (AMS), and
the elementary schools (Clark and Wilkins
Schools) also have their own websites.
The Amherst Citizens Support Our
Schools organization supports the construction of
a new school to relieve overcrowding at the Middle School.
A final though on Official Ballot Voting (known throughout the state as SB2)
Put another way, voting is the punctuation mark at the end of the sentence of democracy. All the true work and benefit of democracy is in the hard work that leads up to a vote. To show up at the end and vote without having been educated and involved in advance isn't really being democratic.
Democracy isn't what happens on one day a year in the solitude of a voting booth. Democracy is what happens the other 364 days in the interactions of the citizenry; voting day is just the formal closing ceremony on what has been accomplished through active involvement.
The NH Society for Technology in Education (NHSTE) also has a useful site.
Webster is maintained by the New Hampshire State Library to provide electronic public access to information about New Hampshire State Government.
