Hi! My name is Jim Race and I have been "on" the WELL since September, 1993. The WELL was my first experience into virtual community life and has opened my eyes to the potential of group interaction without the neccessity of face to face discussion. Since my home page lives here I hope you will take the opportunity to meet some of the other people who make up the community.
I also enjoy a new Online home. It's called The River , and it's based on the premise that the users, or members of an Online service should have a say in the goverernance of the system. It has no flashy graphics, no point and click stuff, just good conversation. Pop on over and check it out, it's a very cool concept.
And then suddenly, my life had gone from this free-wheeling thing called (hah!) Web Consulting to a nicely paying job slinging my resources of technical knowledge around.
I ask you, who would have thought I'd end up doing this stuff for a living, anyway?
So, the scoop was www.minds.com [Electric Minds] where I was the budding Director of Techology. Money issues from hell forced the company to nearly tank. Nonetheless, we had proven the concept, and we launched the site at 11:11am on 11/11/96.
But that was then. Then I tried working at [Netscape] for a few years. That was cool, until the second evil empire came along and swallowed it up.
These days I can be found messing with engineers best intentions at Blue Martini Software.
For now, feel free to use my page for a jump off site to places on the Web I find interesting. I update this page on a regular basis so drop by anytime, you never know what you'll find........

My own essay on our reduction of free speech rights may be found here.
The First Amendment to the Constitution is also available, but in VRML format.
I designed some labels for the 100th Well Office Party Ale..GREAT Party !! (52K one of a series)
The Incredible Cynsa Bonorris turned 30 years of age on June 30th, 1995. In celebration we pelted her (and ourselves) with pies. I happened to have my video camera running, and have grabbed some captures and webbed them for our amusement
For my last birthday, my friends came over, got buzzed, and let me be the dork that I am.... I've managed to put together a *really* cool page to show this stuff, in spite of my hangover.....
I've got a serious motorcycle problem. Some of my friends have suggested therapy. There is a breed of bikes that don't get into the general mention much. They're called "two-strokes". The engine operates much differently from the bikes you might see on a daily basis. They spit out gobs of pollutants, they are noisy and they suck gas like there is no tomorrow. But, they're quick as snot on a warm day. My current bike is a 1975 Kawasaki S1. It's a three cylinder 250cc bike, and can rip up the asphalt with the best of lots of modern bikes.
That being said, here is my motorhead section..........
oh. I should mention I dig fast cars too......
The green chair you see below was my first adventure into modeling 3D objects. It was done on a Quadra 630 with 12Meg of Ram using Strata Studio Pro 1.5 . Later, it was converted into VRML through a myriad of lame tools that were being hacked about with at the time. I only leave it as a link now because it shows how far the "cause" has advanced. Consider this 203K file a piece of binary history.
p.s.... It's not green, nor textured in the actual file. That was *way* too complicated then.

Can you figure out where I live?
