What should a library provide?

• Databases? Records, Tapes, and CDs?
• Competition between the public and private sector?

What are some benefits of 'The Electronic Library'?

• Cheaper to Acquire many new materials
• more up to date- rather than 5 year old books, 2 day old articles
• more interactive- can find information faster
• more kinds of information

What are some problems with the 'Electronic Library"

• Private information can be withdrawn- deleting old 'journals'
• Need of a 'filter' for some audiences- no librarian to choose what's appropriate.
• No librarian to teach how to use equipment
• No librarian to assess just who user is and might need
• Information might not be the right information
• Hypertext 'books' and access- but can people follow linear argument?
• Electronic resource addiction- is this a problem?
• Do producers get paid? Electronic information is promiscuous
