woodstock.57: PPV - what do you think of it??
woodstock.57.0: let my inspiration flow... (tomthumb) Sat 13 Aug 94 11:23
I'm sitting at home this weekend watching the event on PPV. Kinda cool
watching it all go down.
Anyone else out there experiencing it like this?
woodstock.57.1: Papa Chubby (ikoman) Sat 13 Aug 94 11:53
Yeah, Tom. I'm watching and taping. They're really pissing me off, though,
the way they switched from Joe Cocker in the middle of a great song to those
pissheads, The Cranberries. OVerall, it's ok. Waiting for the Band . . .
woodstock.57.2: Post N. Steiner (rb1229) Sat 13 Aug 94 12:11
You took the words right out of our mouths!!!
woodstock.57.3: Krusty Jr. (ershler) Sat 13 Aug 94 12:18
pissheads? ikoman, why dont you FREAK a bit :^).
arent the piss, er cranberries, like, your faves?
woodstock.57.4: editorial comment (green) Sat 13 Aug 94 12:27
hey - you can *hear* ppv unscrampled and ya don't gotta pay for it
woodstock.57.5: Ned Wall (nedwall) Sat 13 Aug 94 12:37
Well, here in NYC they run commercials instead of putting a scrambled
feed through to the channel.
woodstock.57.6: wigindaisy (wstock2) Sat 13 Aug 94 12:56
m sat, aug. 13, 1994.... it's anarchy.... hot, sweaty, a lot of good
drugs and i dig the mindblender....

woodstock.57.7: matneo is (matneo) Sat 13 Aug 94 14:15
Hey guys, Mom just informed me while channel surfing that she "got ppv" so
I'm gearing up for the real thing, the cuts do suck but i guess it's better
than split screen. I'm kind of enjoying the mosh shots, If they would truck
mud into Cal Expo I might see a show there. |-P
Oh well, I guess I gotta yank the modem and head for the show soon!
I have to be at La Guardia sun at 5pm. So, I'll miss jer band and the
sunday mud event. Hope I can make it to CSN, luckily saugerties is only an
hour or seven from here depending on traffic.
woodstock.57.8: Jennifer Powell (jnfr) Sat 13 Aug 94 16:50
no PPV up here in the Rocky Mountain foothills...making do with MTV
woodstock.57.9: Alan Feldstein (fiddle) Sat 13 Aug 94 17:36
I'm watching a scrambled picture, but have primo sound running through two
stereos..very enjoyable, but the two stage switching SUCKS!!
woodstock.57.10: editorial comment (green) Sat 13 Aug 94 17:37
Yeah - the music *sounds* great!
woodstock.57.11: Sleep in the Stars (btwind) Sat 13 Aug 94 17:38
Agreed, the 2 stages of music does blow.
FWIW, AOL has some great .gif's of the days events uploaded already
in their woodstock conf.
woodstock.57.12: [34m2 young 4 # 1[0m (isaac) Sat 13 Aug 94 18:01
And there's lotsa great [stuff] on the WWW site(s)
woodstock.57.13: aud (dam) Sat 13 Aug 94 18:14
we've been ahving big fun watching the PPV. the commentators are
kind of lame, but other than that it's been pretty good. camera
work is good, sound is coming through good. we were pleased that
the Band's set was shown in (almost) it's entirety, and had no
problem with Bob & Rob being cut away in favor of CSN...let's face
it, when you think of "woodstock" performers CSN come to mind
a lot more than Bob does ;-)
looking forward to seeing the end of the Band's set overnight...
the one thing that was pretty pathetic, tho, was the shill-hour
before it started. the commentators must've tossed out the
Stones-are-coming rumor a dozen times. yeah, right...
woodstock.57.14: far out (flanagan) Sat 13 Aug 94 19:49
agree about the commentators being lame. when she said the song "woodstock"
coalesced the youth into Woodstock Nation, I groaned. I'm sure she has no
inkling who coined the term.
woodstock.57.15: joycesecurity (wstock3) Sat 13 Aug 94 20:32
mudmudmud!
woodstock.57.16: Robin Joss (joss) Sat 13 Aug 94 21:28
I am trying to see this event via MTV and it is the quintessential excercise
in frustration...tried to SOS the PPV folks and they're done for the
day...so I can watch 24 hours of crap interviews interrupted by commercials
and videos, to listen to some dumb ass girl in her pajamas tell me what I
just missed, or I can call a friend and go bowling.....oh yeah, all my
friends are on dates ...
woodstock.57.17: crunchy (crunchy) Sun 14 Aug 94 00:19
Ditto on the lame cuts!, and commentators interupting the songs also:(
I thought Joe Cocker was great! and CSN electric! Notice how the sun
came out for them and the band! What is the fetish with Cypress Hill
calling people motherF***ers a thousand times? Same with Metallica,
the lead singer for Metallica must've spit on the stage a million times!
The comment by the Rollins band was lame too! He said, "all the
original performers were too high at the first Woodstock to make $,
and now they are coming back to collect"
BTW, the PPV mix is pretty bad at times too! Overall, it is good
though. :)
It seems that Woodstock is a big mosh fest. At least that is the
way PPV is showing it. I hope the scene is a bit more kind away from
the stage!
woodstock.57.18: let my inspiration flow... (tomthumb) Sun 14 Aug 94 00:40
Boy am I bummed! My vcr had some serious problems at the beginning of
Metallica and it took my till half-way thru their set to fix the problem.
Could some kind soul who taped this fix me up? I'd be deeply grateful!!
woodstock.57.19: Kevin Michael Rardin (kev) Sun 14 Aug 94 01:08
it's way cool that you can hear the sound on PPV even if the picture's
scrambled. i like it.
woodstock.57.20: Papa Chubby (ikoman) Sun 14 Aug 94 07:23
email sent on #18
woodstock.57.21: We must be in HEAVEN, man! (tnf) Sun 14 Aug 94 09:29
I don't find it on Cable Oakland, alas.
woodstock.57.22: Catphish John (catphish) Sun 14 Aug 94 11:22
I've only seen bits and pieces of it (as I was at a reception and dealing
with car problems), and what I saw didn't impress me. The Rollins
Band was total crap!
woodstock.57.23: editorial comment (green) Sun 14 Aug 94 11:25
enjoyed ABB this am, traffic's on now.
woodstock.57.24: Ooooh baby I love your whey (sharris) Sun 14 Aug 94 12:13
Our feed here in Japan is PPV.
Lotsa cameras <-- Good
Lotsa bimbos, shirtless, with flabby mammaries <-- Bad
woodstock.57.25: forever young (kwinb) Sun 14 Aug 94 12:58
thank god I don't have cable or pay per view, I would have become slightly
apoplectic like Ikodude when they switched off in the middle of a
performance (especially if I was really digging a great song), but that is
why recording a big performance is often so frustraing because the geeks
that set it up fuck it up
woodstock.57.26: Papa Chubby (ikoman) Sun 14 Aug 94 14:33
Today has been lots better on the cuts. Nothing really outrageous --'cept
not a peep out of either Nevilles or Santana. They'd better be on
overnight!!
woodstock.57.27: Alan Feldstein (fiddle) Sun 14 Aug 94 14:47
They haven't played yet!! I guess the WOMAD took a bunch of time on the
South Stage, because Paul Rodgers (the second band on that stage) just
finished about 15 minutes ago..I surmise you are right though, Iko, that we
will probably miss Carlos, the Nevilles and Jimmy Cliff on PPV..I'm hoping
they will show them overnight, too..
woodstock.57.28: Sally Grateful (joss) Sun 14 Aug 94 16:01
This is way better than MTV snip-its - good marketing MTV...my 68 year old
co-cable viewer learmned quite a bit from Porno for Pyros - I've considered
self-tattoo since the performance....but I'm too busy filling my living room
with mud for the realistic approach.
woodstock.57.29: jt (wstock2) Sun 14 Aug 94 16:13
Did the PPV's get all of that porno's for pyro's today.
There were some provocative moves made by the girls, and by Perry.
(69)
JUst CUrious.
woodstock.57.30: Alan Feldstein (fiddle) Sun 14 Aug 94 18:43
The entire Pornos set was aired..as far as foul language goes, I believe
Green Day took the title....
woodstock.57.31: let my inspiration flow... (tomthumb) Sun 14 Aug 94 20:30
I'm still waiting to see the exciting conclusion to the Green Day set. With
all the build up the commentators were giving it, I'm surpirse they opted
for Santana and the Nevilles as the between main stage acts.
woodstock.57.32: Nicolas Pasquale Valle (buzzcut) Sun 14 Aug 94 21:37
ppv commentators should be drawn a nd quartered. Nothing will be too cruel.
woodstock.57.33: editorial comment (green) Sun 14 Aug 94 22:14
who is on now? I like them (peter gabriel and youssou n'dour?)
woodstock.57.34: Has Hendrix Played Yet? (mglito) Mon 15 Aug 94 00:40
IJWTS that Santana should have been on the North Stage...
woodstock.57.35: Streetlife Serenader (nitewing) Mon 15 Aug 94 15:05
And that
Sanatana and Dylan shouldn't have had to overlap performances!
Just like CSn and the Band (w/Bob & Rob), poorly thought out...
woodstock.57.36: aud (dam) Mon 15 Aug 94 16:53
and why in hell did they not broadcast Gabriel's whole set?????
woodstock.57.37: Alan Feldstein (fiddle) Mon 15 Aug 94 18:35
The 2 stage thing made no sense whatsoever..PPV did a reasonably good jon of
dealing with it, considering the circumstances...
./
woodstock.57.38: well's cargo (dlee) Mon 15 Aug 94 22:36
I WONDERED what the hell happened with gabriel. The way it was on PPV, I
thought he just did an extremely short set. What a screwup.
woodstock.57.39: we (justride) Tue 16 Aug 94 07:28
Didn't PPV play taped versions of overlapped sets?
woodstock.57.40: Michael Townshend (sparkit) Tue 16 Aug 94 13:38
yea the missed stuff was all supposed to be played, but if you were taping
the sound quality was noticibly inferrior.
See the main Woodstock project page for more
of the backstory.
