The Harryhausen Chronicles (E-mail Posted 9/30/98)
Last night AMC showed a one-hour documentary, "The Harryhausen Chronicles", about the life and work of stop-motion pioneer Ray Harryhausen. If you've ever enjoyed THE SEVENTH VOYAGE OF SINBAD, JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS, IT CAME FROM BENEATH THE SEA, EARTH VS. THE FLYING SAUCERS, FIRST MEN IN THE MOON, or others, you should keep an eye out for the re-broadcast of this. Highlights included several pieces of previously unseen footage, some amateur stuff from early in Harryhausen's career, and some professional stuff from films that were never completed. I was also fascinated to learn that Harryhausen and Ray Bradbury met as teenagers and became life-long friends.
The show was narrated by Leonard Nimoy.

The Emmies
Scifi fans have something to be smug about. :-)
The Tom Hanks-produced miniseries, "From the Earth to the Moon" won the Emmy for best miniseries;
(I wonder if he thanked Jules Verne for the title :-)
And the number One milestone in TV history:
Live TV broadcast from the moon of
"The Eagle has Landed..." , and "One small step for man ..."
