this page honors Asaph Hall (1829-1907)

While working as an astronomer at the U.S. Naval Observatory in Washington, D.C., Asaph Hall discovered the two moon of Mars in August 1877. He named them Phobos and Deimos after the two attendants of the god Mars in Homer's Iliad.
