Percival Lowell was an author and entrepeneur who built an observatory on Mars Hill, near Flagstaff, Arizona, in 1894. His main desire was to study the solar system. He wrote several books about Mars, including one simply titled Mars. Lowell Observatory remained in use after his death. In 1930, Clyde Tombaugh discovered Pluto while on duty there. |
