Me...

I'm 29 years old. I graduated from Cal Poly Pomona in 1999 with a BS in Computer Science and a BS in Communications. I worked as a self-employed software developer through college and then as a developer for Dreamworks SKG Animation in Glendale, CA. I moved to San Francisco in 2001 and I now work at PDI/Dreamworks in Palo Alto, CA.

I studied abroad in Uppsala, Sweden for a year which was one of the high points of my life and the first symptom of a terminal case of wanderlust.

I love to be around people who make me think and make me smile. My intellectual interests pivot around the concepts of Darwinian evolution. I think that an understanding of the evolutionary process which led to us provides an interesting and useful perspective.

My strongest interest in computing is the field of artificial life and the use of evolution in simulations to evolve solutions to problems which are too elusive to be attacked with traditional top-down approaches. I love science and I feel that science and rational thinking in general have saved our civilization many times and they are the key to our sustained progress.

I love music and seeing live music performances especially.  I collect live recordings, see etree.org for more on that.

In my free time I like to mountain bike, fish, camp and run. I've been doing lots of computing lately as well, despite being in front of one all day long at work.

I can be contacted by email at hernan_AT_well_DOT_com. I will have this email address until a few months after I die when the kind folks at The Well realize that I haven't paid my bill in awhile.
