A congratulatory tip of the IRW cap for a pair of Hoosier radio
stations nominated for an NAB 2009 Crystal Radio Award. The stations
are Emmis N-T/WIBC (93.1fm, Indianapolis) and South Central's Soft
AC/WIKY (104.1fm, Evansville). Winners will be announced during the
NAB show in Las Vegas on 21 April.
Northcentral
Le Sea Broadcasting's Contemporary Christian/WHPZ and WHPD (96.9fm,
Bremen; 92.1fm, Dowagiac, Michigan) add Corey Mann in mornings (6AM
until 10AM) and Drew Sumrall at night (7PM until 12AM). Mann worked
at CHR/WNDV (92.9fm, South Bend) on several different airshifts, as
"Taylor Richards." Also, Mann will be PD, elevating Gary Hegland to
OM.
Northwest
After ten years, LIN Television CBS affiliate WLFI-TV (Channel
18/DT11, Lafayette) Chief Meteorologist Mike Prangley will exit the
station on 1 May. No replacement yet named.
Central
At Cumulus Country/WFMS (95.5fm, Indianapolis), budget woes claim the
following people, who have left the station: Darren Tandy (Nights),
Steve Stewart (Promotions Coordinator), Lindsay Allard (Direct of New
Media), Chris Watts (Assistant Production Director), Annie Steele
(Administrative Assistant), Lynette Irwin (Production Coordinator),
and Jasmina Mijailovic (Assistant Promotions Director). Cumulus
Indianapolis GM Chris Wheat is also actively looking for a new PD to
replace Bob Richards, whose last day is tomorrow (20 March). Wheat
has also named a duo which will temporarily fill Richards'
programming duties: MD/afternoon host J.D. Cannon and midday lady
Vicki Murphy. Richards' replacement will be chosen by the trio of GM
Wheat, Cumulus Country PD Bill Jones, and Cumulus Senior
VP/Programming Jan Jeffries.
The Indianapolis Star's Cathy Knightlinger reports that Michael
Toulouse is back on the radio co-hosting afternoons (the "Classical
Cruise" classical music show) at the University of Indianapolis' WICR
(88.7fm, Indianapolis). Toulouse left NPR affiliate WFYI (90.1fm,
Indianapolis) where he hosted a classical music show in the evening.
Westcentral
After stunting for a week, Crossroads' Hot AC/WBOW-FM (102.7fm, Terre
Haute) flips format on Friday 13 March at 6AM to AC, under GM Doug
Edge and PD Adam Michaels. The morning show remains from the former
format - the trio of GM Edge, PD Michaels, and Julie Henricks.
Henricks remains on until 3PM. Afternoons, and overnights are
handled by Waitt Radio Networks ("AC Pure") format. Delilah takes
evenings, according to a release sent to IRW, but no mention of her
is made on the WBOW website.
Southeast
Reising Radio's Country/WYGB (100.3fm, Edinburgh) adds the syndicated
"Rick and Bubba" show, effective last Fall. The recent press release
about their addition (along with other new affiliates across the
USA)...simply came out late, but when Rick and Bubba were originally
added to the "Korn Country" lineup, that slipped past us, too.
Southwest
Deb Turner joins in middays (10AM until 3PM) at Regent's Oldies/WJLT
(105.3fm, Evansville).
That's all for this issue. Thank you for your continued support.
