Indiana RadioWatch: March 23, 2005
I've been busy trying to make a few changes - hoping to get them
implemented in time for the 19-20 March issue, but that didn't turn out.
Here's what should have gone out last weekend (with a few additions) - No
issue this weekend, as IRW will celebrate Easter over in the
very-southwestern suburbs of Chicago.
Now, onto the news...
Northeast
IRW is starting to learn what's happened with former staffers at WISE-TV
(Channel 33, Fort Wayne [NBC]) Former WISE Chief Meteorologist Greg Shoup
signs on for weather duties with LIN-Television competitor WANE-TV
(Channel 15, Fort Wayne [CBS]) during the morning and midday shifts. Shoup
told reporter Steve Penhollow of the Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette that the
hardest thing about the move is competing with WPTA and WISE, where his
friend and colleague Linda Jackson works. Shoup also told Penhollow that
longtime WANE-TV weathercaster Sandy Thomson is a longtime friend, so
becoming her colleague requires little adjustment.
Hot AC/WLZQ (101.1fm, South Whitley) adds Internet streaming from its
website at http://www.thenewq101.com/ - Click the "Listen Live" link and
the stream uses Microsoft Windows Media Player.
Northwest
Randy Jones starts today in afternoons at Oldies/WASK (1450am, Lafayette;
98.7fm, Battle Ground) - He replaces Bobby Rivers who passed away in
January. Jones returns to Lafayette, as he was PD/middays at WASK until
May, 2004.
Country/WLJE (105.5fm, Valparaiso) adds MD duties to midday jock Jeff
Sanders.
Central
George Economos is the new Promotions Director at Emmis' CHR/WNOU (93.1fm,
Indianapolis). He arrives from six years as Promotions Coordinator at
Bonneville's WTMX in Chicago.
"Criticism" generally isn't our beat, but we could not overlook
Broadcasting and Cable's error in their 14 March profile of the
Indianapolis TV market, as they profiled "WDNY." Otherwise, the article
provides an overview of Indiana's largest TV market, and the 25th largest
in the nation.
Lauren Cooley makes the big jump from Clear Channel's Austin, Texas
cluster to GSM duties at Susquehanna's Country/WFMS (95.5fm,
Indianapolis).
Where Are They Now? JD Redman, former late night host at CHR/WNOU
(93.1fm, Indianapolis) is now handling mornings, as half of WAJZ's
"Morning Madhouse" in Albany, New York.
Southwest
After flipping formats in early February to Country, as "The Wolf," South
Central Communications' WJPS (93.5fm, Chandler) flips call letters to a
more "Wolf"-appropriate WLFW.
That's it for this issue. See you in a week!
