Northeast
The second half of the Kovas shakeup unfolds, as usual, in several parts. Here's how things
stood with Kovas Communications at the end of our last issue:
Talk/WGL(AM) (1250am, Fort Wayne)
Urban AC/WYSR (94.1fm, Roanoke)
Alternative/WEJE (96.3fm, Churubusco)
Urban AC/WCKZ (102.3fm, Auburn)
The simulcast between Urban AC/WYSR (94.1fm, Roanoke) and WCKZ (102.3fm, Auburn) has ended to
make room for the move of WEJE to 102.3fm. WEJE is now "Extreme 102" (WEJE 102.3fm, Auburn).
Replacing alternative on 96.3fm is a brand new station: Country/WWWD (96.3fm, Churubusco) as
"Big Red Country, 3-W-D." So Kovas' landscape now looks like:

Urban AC/WCKZ (94.1fm, Roanoke)
Country/WWWD (96.3fm, Churubusco)
Alternative/WEJE (102.3fm, Auburn)
After a month in the sales department at News-Talk/WOWO (1190am, Fort Wayne), Louis Dinwiddie
exits.
CHR/WMEE (97.3fm, Fort Wayne) launches a local Friday night dance music show "Club 97.3" from
10am - 2pm. Music for the show is mixed live at a local nightclub by Chris Cage (air
personality at the former CHR/WDJB [106.3fm, Columbia City; now Standards/WSHI]). Back at
WMEE's Maples Road studios, yours truly produces the show.
Northwest
WJOB (1230am, Hammond) ended its polka show "Wally Skibinski's Polish Cavalcade of Music" on
18 March. According to Robert Feder's column in The Chicago Sun-Times, the show was
previously known as the "Polish Musical Varieties Program" and began in 1930 with Edward
Oskierko. In March, 1952, Oskierko hired Skibinski as an announcer. When Oskierko retired in
1980, he handed duties over to Wally, who gave the show its current name.
Alternative/WGBD (95.7fm, Attica) flips calls to WSHP.
Central
Bill Shirk, Radio One Indianapolis Cluster Manager, exits. He oversaw Rhythmic/WHHH (96.3fm,
Indianapolis), Urban/WTLC-FM (106.7fm, Greenwood), Jazz/WYJZ (100.9fm, Indianapolis), and
W65DW (Channel 65 [what used to be W53AV], Indianapolis). Replacing Shirk is Vince Fruge.
Fruge was last VP/GM for WTLC(AM) & FM under previous owner Emmis Communications. Emmis sold
both WTLC(AM) and the calls format, and staff of WTLC-FM last month to Radio One.
Southeast
As noted in our 2 December 2000 issue, The Bob & Tom Show (syndicated from Rock/WFBQ [94.7fm,
Indianapolis]) adds Louisville, Kentucky affiliate Classic Rock/WQMF (95.7fm, Jeffersonville),
mornings from 6am - 11am. Bob & Tom have been off in Louisville since August, 2000 when they
were at Classic Rock/WSFR (107.7fm, Corydon).
