Indiana RadioWatch: November 29, 2003
A new question before we begin:
A reader is looking for Arbitron ratings for Evansville between December,
1981 and February, 1983. He's looking to find information on WYER-FM when
they were rated in the top ten (He doesn't mention if that's 12+ or in a
certain demographic.) Any help? E-mail IRW: irw@well.com
Now, onto the latest news:
Northeast
This is reprinted to add information: Last Wednesday (19 November),
afternoon man Mark Evans was named OM/PD of Hot AC/WMEE (97.3fm, Fort
Wayne). For fifteen years, Evans worked at crosstown competitor AC/WAJI
(95.1fm, Fort Wayne). Thirteen of those years, he was "Majic Mark" - the
sidekick of their successful morning show. Before arriving at WMEE, he was
a features reporter at then-WKJG (Channel 33, Fort Wayne [NBC]).
Speaking of WMEE, they flips to all Christmas music.
Where Are They Now? Today, former WFFT (Channel 55, Fort Wayne [FOX])
VP/GM Patricia "Patty" Hamilton was named VP/GM of Tribune's FOX affiliate
WXMI-TV in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Northwest
Longtime Oldies/WASK and Country/WKOA (1450am, Lafayette; 98.7fm, Battle
Ground; 105.3fm, Lafayette) GM Hal Youart retires after four decades in
Lafayette radio.
IRW's aircheck friends inform us that Talk/WLTH (1270am, Gary) wasn't
broadcasting a legal ID when listened to recently. The only ID heard is
for station WAZN in Marlborough, Massachusetts. Why WAZN? (that's a
question we wondered) We turned to veteran Northeast RadioWatch editor
Scott Fybush for guidance. Fybush explains: "WAZN station owner Alex
Langer leases out all the airtime on WLTH after its mornings how and feeds
the programming to WLTH by phone line."
Central
Inside Radio reports that Bob Kevoian and Tom Griswold of The Bob & Tom
Show have signed a new, long-term contract with Premiere Radio Networks.
They're syndicated on 127 stations currently, and have been syndicated
since 1995 with first broadcast affiliate being WFWI (92.3fm, Fort Wayne).
2003 marks their twentieth year.
Westcentral
CHR/WMGI (100.7fm, Terre Haute) night slammer Ben Davis exits for nights
at WDJX in Louisville, Kentucky. Davis held down nights at "100.7 Mix FM"
since March, 2000.
Southeast
100000watts.com provides an answer to Religious/WXLN (1570am, New Albany):
It has flipped formats from black/southern gospel to blues/jazz and
changes call letters to WLBJ.

Where Are They Now? Recently, former WUEV (91.5, Evansville) GM Len Clark
was named GM at KBBI (890am, Homer, Alaska). According to Carly Bossert's
article in The Homer News, he'll begin at "Where The Sound Meets The Sea"
by January 1, 2004. Between WUEV and KBBI, Clark has been an AP stringer
for Notre Dame football games.
