Welcome!

Welcome to Indiana RadioWatch. We designed this FAQ in hopes of answering questions you may have. If you have questions not answered here, please email us.

All of these questions were asked of us in the past year.

1. IRW's email is irw at well dot com. We will gladly take news marked confidential. Embargoes are honored, as long as other media news sites also honor the embargo. Once we see an embargoed story printed before the "embargo deadline," we reserve the chance to print it, with attribution. We also use AIM - indianaradio5 is the screen name.

2. We generally don't print the names of those who e-mail us news (i.e. "Thanks to IRW reader Bob Smith"). The reason is not egotistical. About 50% of the emails we receive are from the station PD, GM, etc., and they don't mind us printing it. The other 50% of stories started from someone writing us and saying "Hey, the night jock at W___ just got canned." Well, once we verify the story (we DO verify the story first), it then becomes confusing: Do we thank the original person? Sorta. Do we thank the PD or OM who confirmed the story? Maybe.

3. We generally print news after the fact, unless the news is widely publicized. If you e-mail saying that W___ is changing format next week Friday, we will wait until next week Friday, hear that the station changed format, then print it. Doing otherwise would be wasteful, as people are human, events are postponed, and smokescreens aggrivate IRW's asthma. :-)

4. IRW is based in Fort Wayne. Not Indianapolis, Evansville, or South Bend, as some have guessed. Nobody ever guessed Terre Haute. Sorry, Terre Haute.

5. Stories we generally do not print include promotions (unless someone was arrested or something), fundraisers, or rumors. We do print stories about air personalities changing stations, FCC technical data changes or applications, new transmitters, new towers, call letter changes, programming changes, employee changes (even down to the weekend staff, but usually only if the weekend staff is/was full time at another station. An example would be our printing a story where the DJ is full time in Lafayette but just picked up a weekend shift at The Big Radio Station in Indianapolis.)

6. We do publish stories about noncommercial stations, whether they be NPR affiliates, LPFMs, based at colleges, high schools, community programmed, or religious formats.
