Station History

94.7fm signed on November 26, 1959. WFBQ's ownership progression: Gulf, Taft, Great American, Broadcast Alchemy, L.P., Secret Communications, L.P., SFX Broadcasting, Inc., Capstar, AM/FM, and is currently owned by Clear Channel Communications, Inc.

WFBQ was WXLW-FM, and WFBM. In spring 1974, WFBM changed calls to WFBQ. From 1974 through February 1978, the station was formatted with Rock music, using the automated "TM Stereo Rock" format. On February 14, 1978, WFBQ went live and local. On March 7, 1983, Bob Kevoin and Tom Griswold arrive from WJML in Petoskey, Michigan. Their morning show, "The Q-Zoo" is renamed The Bob and Tom Show within a few years. WFBQ was sold in October, 1996 by Secret Communications to SFX Broadcasting, Inc. as part of a 9 station deal, for $300 million. Other Indianapolis stations in that deal were WNDE and WRZX.
