Station History

WGRL (93.9fm)

WGRL's calls are due to its original moniker as "The Bear," so "GRL" stands for "Growl." In 1997, WGRL moved frequencies from 104.5fm to 93.9fm. The 93.9fm in Indianapolis was formerly WXTZ. WGRL was on 104.5fm, but switched frequencies with what's now sister station WGLD. After a Thanksgiving Day -> Christmas Day stint as "The Christmas Channel" in 2001, WGRL flipped formats to 1980's music as "Retro 93.9." On Monday 5 July 2004, WGRL went all TV theme songs and on Friday 9 July 2004 at 6:45am, WGRL became "93.9, The Song" with a contemporary Christian format. The new WISG call letters became official on 12 August 2004. 93.9fm is now WRWM.

WGRL (104.5fm)

Formerly WAJC. Moved frequencies in 1997. WGRL moved to its current facility in November 1998. 104.5fm is now WJJK.
