Station History

WIBC(AM)

WIBC signed on October 31, 1938. Stations calls stand for "Indiana Broadcasting Company". In the 1960's at least, the station was MOR, as typical of most of the larger AM's in the USA. By 1993, the format was changed to news/talk. In 1994, the station was sold by Sconnix Broadcasting Co. to Emmis Communications Corp.. The station earned an NAB Crystal Award in 1998 for its commitment to community service. The WIBC call letters migrated to 93.1fm on December 26, 2007. On that date, WIBC-FM began airing old sports play by play broadcasts. On January 7, 2008, WIBC became an ESPN Radio affiliate. After 70 years, 1070am is now WFNI.

WIBC-FM

93.1fm started out as WIBC-FM, signing on December 5, 1960. Then it became WNAP-FM, WKLR then back to WNAP-FM, WNOU, and a brief time as WEXM before returning to WIBC-FM on 26 December 2007.
