Station History

1380AM WKJG signed on November 15, 1947. WKJG's calls stand for "William Kunekl, Journal-Gazette". Studios were at 3802 S. Calhoun St., Fort Wayne, IN 46807-2011. On September 30, 1971 (when it was a Top 40 station), WKJG(AM) & FM signed off and broke off from then-WKJG-TV. Also on that day, WKJG(AM) became WMEE(AM) while WKJG-FM became WMEF-FM. The FM side is now WMEE. The AM side went through several call letter changes (WMEE, WQHK (AM), WHWD, and WONO) but reverted back to WKJG on November 3, 2003 at 6pm. Also of note is that WKJG-TV is now WISE-TV having changed calls on May 26, 2003 (Memorial Day).
